Choose neighbourhoods that fit into one day

Use Namba as a base for separate walks along Dotonbori's riverside and through Namba Parks Garden. In Umeda, combine the Floating Garden views with a meal near the station; give Tempozan time for Kaiyukan. Spread the castle, observation deck and aquarium across separate days, allowing for admission bookings and walking.

Minoh is a walking day from Hankyu Minoh Station to the falls. In Sakai, start with the free visitor centre exhibitions west of Mozu Station; the route does not enter the burial mound. Choose the waterfall or exhibitions and swap it for a city day.

Eat in the neighbourhood you are exploring

In Namba, choose between a takoyaki snack and a seated okonomiyaki meal. If walking beside the river early in the morning, check when your chosen shops open. On your Umeda day, eat near the station before or after the observation deck to avoid returning to Namba just for food.

Kaiyukan no longer allows re-entry, so you cannot leave for a meal and resume your visit. Eat before entry or afterwards. Namba Parks Garden opens at 10:00, while shops and restaurants generally open at 11:00.

Keep Metro, Hankyu and JR journeys separate

From Namba, change at Hommachi for the Chuo Line to both the castle and Kaiyukan, but travel in opposite directions. Get off at Tanimachi 4-chome for the castle and Osakako for the aquarium. Walking directions to the Umeda observation deck differ depending on whether you start at Metro Umeda or JR Osaka.

For Minoh, travel from Hankyu Osaka-umeda via Ishibashi handai-mae and change to the Minoh Line. For Sakai, change from Metro to the JR Hanwa Line at Tennoji and choose a train that stops at Mozu. Do not include Hankyu or JR fares in the Metro one-day pass. Train journey times exclude immigration, baggage collection and the walk from your hotel to the platform. Allow separate time to reach your airport train platform and complete flight check-in.

If you leave luggage at your hotel on departure day, allow time to return and collect it. Choose your final attraction around the time needed to reach your departure station or airport afterwards.

Compare JR passes against your actual routes and dates

You need not buy a JR pass first if your trip mainly uses Osaka's Metro and Hankyu trains to Minoh. The itinerary cost examples exclude JR pass prices. If taking JR trains to Kyoto or Kobe, compare ordinary return fares with the pass validity period. Calculate transport to JR Osaka Station and from your destination station to the attractions separately.

WEST QR Kansai Mini covers ordinary trains in its valid area for three consecutive days. Limited express trains such as Haruka require a separate limited express ticket, and Shinkansen journeys require a new travel ticket. For Kansai Area, check the selected consecutive days and coverage, and distinguish it from Shinkansen travel. Kansai Wide covers five consecutive days and includes the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Okayama, but excludes the Tokaido Shinkansen between Kyoto and Shin-Osaka. Check each product's official rules for a foreign passport, Temporary Visitor status, activation, seats and exchange procedures. These passes do not include all accommodation, admission, private railways or city buses.
