Choose your Osaka base and itinerary
Compare Namba for Dotonbori dinners and Nankai airport trains, or Umeda for the observatory and Hankyu trips to Minoh. Choose your priority—castle exhibitions, the aquarium, or a walk—then read the itinerary for your trip length.
Castle exhibitions, the aquarium, or a walk?
Start by choosing Osaka Castle Museum exhibitions or more time at KAIYUKAN. Compare KUCHU TEIEN for city views, Minoh Falls for a longer walk, or the Mozu visitor center for tomb structure and history. For walks near Namba, explore Dotonbori's riverfront and Namba Parks Garden separately.
Itineraries by trip length
Count the full sightseeing days between arrival and departure. Choosing your priority—the castle, aquarium, waterfall walk, or tomb exhibitions—also helps you choose Namba or Umeda as a base. Open the cards below for daily routes and included admission and transportation.
2 days, 1 night
Stay one night in Namba and choose castle exhibitions and Dotonbori or KAIYUKAN on day one. On day two, walk by the river or through Namba Parks Garden before returning to Namba.
3 days, 2 nights
Compare combining the castle and Umeda observatory on the middle day with spending it at the aquarium. The aquarium course puts castle exhibitions on departure morning, so it requires a later departure.
4 days, 3 nights
Choose three nights in Umeda for the walk to Minoh Falls, or three nights in Namba for Mozu tomb exhibitions and the aquarium. Kyoto or Kobe day trips replace an existing sightseeing day.
5 days, 4 nights
Stay four nights in Namba and separate the castle, Mozu exhibitions, and views across days, or choose the aquarium, Minoh, and views. For an overnight stay in Kyoto or Kobe, reduce your Namba nights and decide whether to return the next day.
Where to stay
Namba · 難波
A useful base for dinner in Dotonbori before returning to your hotel. If you take Nankai trains from the airport, compare the arrival station with your hotel's address. Nankai Namba, subway Namba, and JR Namba do not share the same platforms.
Umeda · 梅田
Consider Umeda for shopping around Osaka Station, the observatory, and a Hankyu trip to Minoh. A hotel near one station is not necessarily close to every railway's platforms. Match the station and exit you will use to your hotel map.

Choose a base, then plan each day
Choose areas that fit together in a day
Use Namba as a base for separate walks along Dotonbori and through Namba Parks Garden. In Umeda, combine observatory views with meals near the station; in Tempozan, give time to KAIYUKAN. Put the castle, observatory, and aquarium on separate days according to reservations and the amount of walking.
Minoh is a walking day from Hankyu Minoh Station to the waterfall. In Sakai, start with the free visitor center exhibition west of Mozu Station; this course does not enter the tomb. Choose the waterfall or exhibition you prefer and replace a city day.

Eat in the neighborhood you are exploring
In Namba, choose between a takoyaki snack and an okonomiyaki meal. For an early riverwalk, check when your chosen shops open. On a Umeda day, eating near the station before or after the observatory reduces a return journey to Namba just for a meal.
KAIYUKAN no longer allows re-entry, so you cannot leave for food and resume your visit. Eat before or afterward. Namba Parks Garden opens at 10:00 AM, but shops and restaurants generally open at 11:00 AM.
Distinguish Metro, Hankyu, and JR
From Namba, both the castle and KAIYUKAN routes transfer to the Chuo Line at Hommachi, but travel in opposite directions. Get off at Tanimachi 4-chome for the castle and Osakako for the aquarium. Umeda observatory walking routes differ depending on whether you start at Metro Umeda or JR Osaka.
For Minoh, travel from Hankyu Osaka-umeda via Ishibashi handai-mae and transfer to the Minoh Line. For Sakai, switch from Metro to the JR Hanwa Line at Tennoji and choose a train stopping at Mozu. Do not include Hankyu or JR fares in a Metro day pass. Immigration, luggage pickup, and walks from your hotel to the platform are outside train ride times. Also allow time to reach the airport train platform and complete airline check-in.
If you leave luggage at your hotel on departure day, allow time to collect it. Choose your final sightseeing stop to leave enough time afterward for your departure station or airport.

Compare JR passes for the routes and dates you will use
If you mainly use Osaka's subways and Hankyu to Minoh, you do not need to buy a JR pass first. Itinerary costs exclude JR pass prices. If you plan to travel to Kyoto or Kobe by JR, compare regular round-trip tickets with pass validity dates. Travel to JR Osaka Station and onward from your destination station to attractions also needs a separate calculation.
WEST QR Kansai Mini covers regular trains within its valid area for three consecutive days. Limited express trains such as Haruka require a separate limited express ticket, while Shinkansen travel requires a new fare ticket. For Kansai Area, check the selected consecutive-day period and covered area, distinguishing it from Shinkansen coverage. Kansai Wide covers five consecutive days and includes the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Okayama, but excludes the Tokaido Shinkansen between Kyoto and Shin-Osaka. Check each product's official guidance for foreign-passport and Temporary Visitor eligibility, validity start, seats, and exchange procedures. These passes do not cover all lodging, admission, regular private railways, or city buses.

Plan city and nearby visits from Namba or Umeda
Consider where you will spend the evening and which railway you will use the next day. Even with the same city hotel, the routes to Minoh and Sakai differ.
A riverwalk and garden day from Namba
Give Dotonbori and Namba Parks Garden separate parts of the day, and choose meals in Namba or Dotonbori. The garden and restaurants open at different times, so an early walk does not necessarily lead straight into a meal.
Views and Minoh from Umeda
The observatory is a walk from the station, while Minoh requires a Hankyu transfer and a walk to the waterfall. Distinguish whether you need JR Osaka or Hankyu Osaka-umeda from your hotel.

Compare admission subtotals and transport tickets separately
Even on a longer trip, an admission-and-transportation card does not show your full travel budget. Add lodging, meals, airport travel, and city rides excluded from that card.
Metro only, or Hankyu and JR too?
Calculate Namba days for the castle and aquarium separately from Minoh and Mozu days. A Metro day pass does not cover a Hankyu Minoh round trip or JR Tennoji–Mozu. Check each course's cost guide for the selected rides and excluded sections.
