Four days in Hyogo: keep your Kobe hotel or spend a night in Arima?

Choose three nights at the same Kobe hotel for separate harbour, Nunobiki Herb Gardens and Himeji days, or spend one night in Arima for an evening in the hot-spring town. The Arima overnight route stays Sannomiya → Arima → Sannomiya.

Return to Sannomiya after the Arima night and visit Harborland. Check ryokan meals, baths and shuttles in your booking. Shorten or skip the final-day herb gardens around your departure.

Harbour, herb gardens and Himeji from Sannomiya

Stay three nights at the same Sannomiya hotel. Give separate days to the harbour, herb gardens and Himeji Castle, then leave from Shin-Kobe on the final day.

Day 1 | Meriken Park

Stay three nights in Sannomiya and walk the harbour on day one. Keep the herb gardens and Himeji on separate days, and fit Harborland around your final departure.

  1. Your Sannomiya hotel and southbound stop 13 → Meriken Park stop 16

Take City Loop from southbound stop 13 in front of subway Sannomiya to Meriken Park stop 16. Distinguish it from northbound stop 8. Walk beside the waterfront and see Port Tower's exterior. Paid tower admission is excluded. Skip the walk if local restrictions close waterfront access.

Find the western Kamomeria Central Terminal on the official map, take City Loop from stop 0 and get off at stop 7, Sannomiya Center Gai East Entrance. Distinguish it from Port Loop stops. Allow the park-to-stop walk and bus waits. Return to your hotel and eat dinner in Sannomiya.

Day 2 | Daytime Nunobiki Herb Gardens

For daytime gardens, check the upward ropeway, garden admission and final downward service together. After returning to the lower station, take City Loop back to Sannomiya.

  1. Sannomiya and northbound stop 8 → Herb gardens stop 11 and lower station

Check herb garden operations before leaving. If strong winds or lightning suspend the ropeway, switch to city meals and rest. Take City Loop from northbound stop 8 in front of subway Sannomiya to stop 11, Herb Gardens/Ropeway, then walk to the lower station. Distinguish this from harbour-bound southbound stop 13. Check your hotel-to-stop route and the day's bus times.

  2. Lower station → Mountaintop gardens and lunch

Prepare a return ticket including the gardens at the lower station. Add waits and visiting time to the roughly ten-minute ropeway ride. Have lunch on the mountain and walk through the gardens, checking restaurant hours and seating separately. Come down in the afternoon and return to Sannomiya. Check last admission and the final downward service in the official calendar for your date.

Day 3 | Himeji Castle, then Koko-en

Visit Himeji Castle's keep and Koko-en on the same day. Start in the morning, allowing for stairs and entry queues, and choose your JR return train.

  1. JR Sannomiya → JR Himeji

From JR Sannomiya, take a Special Rapid towards Himeji, Aboshi or Banshu-Ako and get off at Himeji. Official guidance gives a ride of about 40 minutes, excluding station access and waits. Search your actual date and choose morning arrival and return services separately.

  2. JR Himeji north exit → Castle keep and separate Koko-en entrance

Leave Himeji’s north exit and walk about 20 minutes to the castle according to official guidance. Visit the castle, eat lunch outside, then enter Koko-en separately west of the castle. Remove your shoes and climb stairs in the keep; there is no lift. Start in the morning, as crowd waits may extend the official 90–120-minute castle visit.

  3. Koko-en → Garden visit and JR return to Sannomiya

Regular garden last admission is 16:30; check event-day operations. Use the castle/garden combined ticket when visiting both on the same day. After Koko-en, return to JR Himeji. If the castle takes longer, shorten garden time or check a later return train. The official roughly 15-minute Koko-en walk starts at JR Himeji and heads to the garden. For the return, check your actual exit and walking pace, and allow station access and train waits. Take an Osaka- or Kyoto-bound train from JR Himeji and get off at Sannomiya.
