Two days in Osaka: should I choose the castle or aquarium?

Choose day 1 castle exhibitions followed by a day 2 Dotonbori walk, or day 1 Kaiyukan followed by day 2 Namba Parks garden.

These plans assume a daytime arrival in Namba. With a morning return flight, skip day 2 sightseeing and travel to the airport.

Castle museum and Dotonbori riverside

See the castle’s history displays on day 1 and walk beside Dotonbori’s river in daylight on day 2. This suits arriving in Namba by lunchtime with time for an afternoon castle visit.

Day 1 · Visit Osaka Castle from Namba and return to your accommodation

Have lunch in Namba, then visit the castle museum and walk through the park. If you arrive late, shorten the visit to meet last admission or move it to another day.

  1. Namba → Hommachi

After lunch, take a northbound Midosuji line train from Namba. Get off two stops later at Hommachi and change to the Chuo line.

  2. Hommachi → Tanimachi 4-chome

Stay inside the gates at Hommachi and change to the Chuo line towards Nagata and Ikoma. Get off at Tanimachi 4-chome. Search the Namba → Hommachi → Tanimachi 4-chome route for your date and allow time to change platforms and wait at Hommachi.

  3. Tanimachi 4-chome exit 9 → Otemon Gate and castle tower

From exit 9, follow the park map through Otemon Gate to the tower’s ticket and admission area. The official walk from the station to the tower is about 15–20 minutes. A standard tower visit takes around 50–60 minutes, or about 90 minutes to see more detail. Afterwards, walk outside the castle and beside the moat. Shorten the park walk if ticket queues are long. Other paid areas, including Nishinomaru Garden, are separate choices.

  4. Castle tower → Tanimachi 4-chome, Hommachi and Namba

Return to Tanimachi 4-chome and take a westbound Chuo line train towards Hommachi. Change there to the Midosuji line towards Tennoji and Nakamozu, getting off at Namba. Check in at your accommodation and have dinner in Namba. For evening views, make a short visit around Ebisubashi and leave the riverside walk for tomorrow.

  5. Late arrival or closure → Adjust the visit

Last admission to the tower is 17:30, but entry may close earlier when busy. It is closed 28 December–1 January. After a late arrival, eat in Namba on day 1. Move the tower visit to day 2 only if you still have ample time for the airport journey. Otherwise, leave out the museum and stay around Namba.

Verified admission and transport subtotal: JPY 3,380

Included items: Aquarium admission on 8 October 2026 and standard return Metro travel between Namba and Osakako.

Extra costs and conditions: Flights, accommodation, meals, luggage storage, airport transport, paid tours, shopping, extra facilities and transport on other routes are excluded.
