Three days in Osaka: how should I use the middle day?

Use the middle day for castle exhibitions and Umeda views together, or for time at Kaiyukan. Stay two nights in Namba and split city sightseeing across days.

The castle-and-views itinerary ends with Namba Parks garden. The Kaiyukan itinerary puts Osaka Castle Museum on the final morning. Skip final-day sightseeing with a morning flight. For other departures, check that visiting still leaves time for the airport journey and flight check-in.

Castle museum, Umeda views and a departure-day Namba garden

Stay two nights in Namba to see history displays and views from above the city. Visit the castle and Umeda on day 2 instead of the aquarium, then walk through a free garden on departure day.

Day 1 · Namba accommodation → Dotonbori → Namba accommodation

  1. Namba accommodation → Dotonbori riverside

After lunch in Namba, walk to the river. From subway Namba, follow street signs towards Ebisubashi and Dotonbori. The tourism bureau lists about five minutes from Midosuji line Namba station; walking time from your accommodation will differ.

  2. Dotonbori riverside → Accommodation check-in and dinner

See the riverside and signs in the afternoon, then check in and rest before dinner. The walk itself requires no admission ticket; food and cruises cost extra. After a late arrival, take just a short evening walk and keep the next day’s castle time.

  1. Namba → Tanimachi 4-chome and castle museum

After breakfast, take the Midosuji line north towards Hommachi. Change there to the Chuo line towards Nagata and Ikoma and get off at Tanimachi 4-chome. From exit 9, walk through Otemon Gate to the tower. The official walk is about 15–20 minutes; museum viewing takes 50–60 minutes, or around 90 minutes for more detail. Ticket and admission queues are extra. Consider morning exhibitions and lunch near the castle. The tower opens 09:00–18:00, with last admission at 17:30, and closes 28 December–1 January.

  3. Metro Umeda North Gate → Floating Garden Observatory dedicated entrance

The official walk from Metro Umeda to the observatory is about nine minutes. Leave the North Gate towards Yodobashi Umeda, pass LINKS UMEDA, walk between Grand Front’s north and south buildings, cross the junction and use the short underpass on the official map. Return to street level and cross to the Sky Building. Follow signs to the dedicated entrance outside; it is not inside the building’s offices, so avoid the Tower East and West office lifts. This differs from the seven-minute route starting at JR Osaka station.
