Sengan-en combines gardens and the Shimazu family’s former residence with Sakurajima as a backdrop. Look toward the mountain as you walk, then explore inside the residence. Adding Shoko Shuseikan gives you both a garden walk and a museum visit.

Admission
Standard admission is ¥1,600 for adults and ¥800 for elementary, junior high, and high school students; ages 0–6 enter free. The standard adult category is age 15 and older excluding junior high and high school students. Admission includes the garden, residence, and Shoko Shuseikan Museum.
Opening hours
Sengan-en opens 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with last admission at 4:30 p.m.

Look toward Sakurajima beyond the garden as you walk. Visit for an unhurried walk taking in the garden and mountain scenery together.
Inside the residence and Shoko Shuseikan Museum
You can explore the Shimazu family’s former residence indoors too. After the garden and residence, continue to Shoko Shuseikan Museum, included in your ticket.

How to get to Sengan-en · 仙巌園
From Kagoshima-Chuo Station, take the JR Nippo Main Line to Sengan-en Station. Choose a train that stops there; the walk from the station to Sengan-en takes about 5 minutes. For City View, get off at Sengan-en (Iso Teien-mae). Check the boarding point and direction because it is a loop bus.

Visiting other attractions by City View
City View loops through other attractions such as Shiroyama before reaching Sengan-en. Choose your other stops, then check the stop order and next departure. For a direct JR approach, choose a train that stops at Sengan-en Station.

Kagoshima Marathon closure on the first Sunday in March
Sengan-en closes on Kagoshima Marathon day, the first Sunday in March. If visiting around that time, check the operator’s closure notice.
