Admission

Standard main garden admission is ¥320 for adults and ¥160 for children. The adult category covers ages 15 and older excluding students in compulsory education; the child category covers pupils and students in compulsory education. During the plum festival, adults pay ¥500 and children ¥250. Visitors age 70 and older pay half the standard fare, ¥160; check the applicable festival fare separately. Separate free-entry conditions apply to Ibaraki residents and entry by 9:00 AM. Admission inside Kobuntei costs extra.

Opening hours

The main garden opens 6:00 AM–7:00 PM from mid-February through September 30, and 7:00 AM–6:00 PM from October 1 through mid-February. Areas outside the main garden are always open. Kobuntei opens 9:00 AM–5:00 PM from mid-February through September 30, with last entry at 4:45 PM. From October 1 through mid-February, it opens 9:00 AM–4:30 PM, with last entry at 4:15 PM.

How to get to Kairakuen Garden · 偕楽園

From Mito Station's North Exit, walk toward Kodokan to boarding point 1 at the Kodokan stop. Take the Route 10 loop bus toward Kairakuen and get off at Kobuntei Omotemon Iriguchi. Walk about 5–8 minutes to the main garden's Omotemon gate. For the return, take a bus to Mito Station's North Exit from the same boarding point 1. This stop is separate from the main garden's East Gate and the Kobuntei building entrance.

Plum Festival Hours and Kobuntei Closures

Plum blooms depend on your date. During the festival, the main garden may normally close at 5:00 PM. Kobuntei closes December 29–31. To enter the building too, check its separate admission and last-entry time.

Walk from the Bus Stop to Omotemon

Allow about 5–8 minutes from Kobuntei Omotemon Iriguchi bus stop to the main garden's Omotemon gate. Despite the name, the stop is not directly outside the Kobuntei building entrance. It is also separate from the garden's East Gate; locate Omotemon on the map.
