Admission
Ordinary admission to the main garden costs JPY 320 for adults and JPY 160 for children. Adults are ages 15+ excluding compulsory-school students; child rates apply to children and students in compulsory education. During the plum festival, admission costs JPY 500 for adults and JPY 250 for children. Ordinary admission for ages 70+ is half-price, JPY 160; check festival pricing separately. Separate free-admission conditions apply to Ibaraki residents and entry by 09:00. Entry inside Kobuntei costs extra.
Opening hours
The main garden opens from 06:00 to 19:00 from mid-February to 30 September and from 07:00 to 18:00 from 1 October to mid-February. Areas outside the main garden are always open. Kobuntei opens from 09:00 to 17:00 from mid-February to 30 September, with last admission at 16:45. From 1 October to mid-February, it opens from 09:00 to 16:30, with last admission at 16:15.

The main garden’s paths pass bamboo and large cedars. Walk slowly among the trees and explore the garden around Kobuntei.
How to get to Kairakuen
Walk from Mito Station North Exit towards Kodokan to stop 1. Take route 10’s Kairakuen-bound loop bus to Kobuntei Omotemon-iriguchi, then walk about five to eight minutes to the main garden’s Omotemon Gate. Return from the same stop 1 towards Mito Station North Exit. This differs from East Gate and the Kobuntei building entrance.

Before you visit
Plum festival and Kobuntei closures
Plum flowering varies by date. During the plum festival, main-garden hours may change, generally closing at 17:00. Kobuntei closes 29–31 December. To enter the building, check its separate charges and last admission.

Walk from the bus stop to Omotemon Gate
Kobuntei Omotemon-iriguchi stop is about five to eight minutes’ walk from the main garden’s Omotemon Gate. Despite its name, it is not directly outside the building entrance. It also differs from East Gate; locate Omotemon on the map.
