Visitor information
Admission
General admission is ¥600, admission for ages 65 and older is ¥300, and junior high school students pay ¥200. Children through sixth grade enter free. Junior high school students living or studying in Tokyo also enter free with proof. Proof of age is required for the senior rate.
Opening hours
The zoo opens 9:30 AM–5:00 PM, with ticket sales and admission ending at 4:00 PM. It normally closes Mondays and December 29–January 1. Check the visit-date calendar for holiday exceptions and selected Monday openings.
What to see at Ueno Zoo
Explore animal exhibits in the East and West Gardens
Animal exhibits are split between the East and West Gardens. Start in the area with the animals you most want to see. If you visit both, allow time to move between them and take breaks.
How to get to Ueno Zoo
Leave JR Ueno Station through the Park Exit. The zoo's main gate is about a five-minute walk away.
Visit tips
Admission ends at 4:00 PM
The zoo closes at 5:00 PM, but ticket sales and admission end at 4:00 PM. Arrive with time to spare if you want to see several exhibits.
Monday and year-end closures
The zoo normally closes Mondays. If Monday is a public or substitute holiday, it closes the next day instead. It also closes December 29–January 1. Selected Mondays have calendar exceptions, so check whether the zoo is open on your date.
