At Tottori Sand Dunes, the sea comes into view beyond the sand hills. Walk over the sand or take a shorter look around the entrance. To see sculptures made from sand as well, visit the nearby Sand Museum.

Walking on the dunes is free. Activities, lift rides, and parking have separate charges.
Opening hours
No separate opening or last-entry time is listed for the outdoor dunes. The nearby Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. year-round.

Sand hills and sea views
See the sand hills and sea together. If you prefer a shorter sand walk, stay around the entrance. Allow more time on the sand to reach the hills.
How to get to Tottori Sand Dunes · 鳥取砂丘
Take a Route 39 Sand Dunes Line bus from stop 0 at Tottori Station's north-side terminal. Get off at the final stop, Sakyu Kaikan · 砂丘会館(鳥取砂丘), then walk a few minutes to the dunes. The adult fare is ¥380 one-way. Allow extra time to walk over the sand hills. If also visiting the Sand Museum, you can return on a Tottori Station-bound bus from its stop.

Visit tips
Midday heat and strong winds
This outdoor site has little shade. Bring water and shorten the walk if heat or wind makes it difficult. Follow on-site guidance in darkness or strong winds.
Adding the Sand Museum
You can follow the dunes walk with the Sand Museum's sculpture exhibition. Museum admission is separate, and it closes between exhibitions. Allow separate time for walking between the sites and viewing the museum, then check Tottori Station-bound buses from the Sand Museum stop.
