Aomori in five days: mountains and park walks or two nights by the lake

For mountain views and park walks, spend three nights in Aomori and one in Hirosaki, keeping Hakkoda and the park on separate days. For time by the lake, stay one night in Aomori before and after two nights in the Lake Towada area. The lakeside example uses Towada Hotel's reserved shuttle in Kosaka, Akita; check the specific transportation arrangements if you choose another hotel.

  2. WA RASSE exhibits → Port walk and overnight stay in Aomori

See the Nebuta exhibits, then take a short waterfront walk if the weather is good. Closing is at 7:00 p.m. in May–August and 6:00 p.m. in September–April, with last admission 30 minutes before each. If you arrive late, start with the port walk. 5 days, 4 nights

Five days, four nights: two nights by Lake Towada, then back to Aomori

Spend one night in Aomori, two in the Lake Towada area, then one more in Aomori for a lakeside break. The transport example uses reserved shuttles between Yasumiya and Towada Hotel in Kosaka, Akita. For another hotel in the lake area, arrange that hotel's access and shuttle separately. If you cannot reserve the example shuttle or secure another round-trip option, skip the lakeside stay and choose an Aomori or Hirosaki base itinerary.

Day 1 · WA RASSE Nebuta exhibits and a port walk

On arrival day, visit the indoor exhibits near the station and take a break by the waterfront.

  1. Aomori Station → WA RASSE

Walk east toward the waterfront. WA RASSE is about a one-minute walk from the station, and adult exhibit admission is ¥620.

Take an autumn JR bus toward Lake Towada and get off at the Yasumiya terminus. Adult one-way fare is ¥3,480. Choose a departure that connects with your hotel shuttle after arrival. Winter buses from Aomori run only as far as Sukayu, so this lakeside itinerary does not apply unchanged.

  2. Yasumiya → Towada Hotel and overnight lakeside stay

Eat and take a break near the bus terminus, then board your reserved hotel shuttle. Towada Hotel, used in this example, is on the western shore in Kosaka, Akita, about 15 minutes from Yasumiya by shuttle. Do not plan to walk to it. Reserve by about 10:00 p.m. the previous night; the shuttle does not run without a reservation.

Choose your lakeside hotel first and check its route from Yasumiya. The shuttle below uses Towada Hotel's conditions only. If you cannot reserve both directions, arrange another way or choose a trip without the lakeside stay.

Day 3 · Lake Towada shore, Maidens statue, and shrine

Spend another night at the same lakeside hotel and walk around Yasumiya.

  1. Towada Hotel → Yasumiya

The hotel's Yasumiya-bound shuttles are listed as departing at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30 a.m. Use your reserved service for the lakeside walk and arrange the return shuttle from Yasumiya too. When booking, ask whether round-trip shuttle use for a walk during a multi-night stay is available.

  2. Yasumiya → Maidens statue and Towada Shrine

The prefectural tourism agency lists about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop to the Maidens statue; the Ministry of the Environment lists about five minutes from central Yasumiya to the shrine. These start at different points, so do not add them as the total walk. In rain or with local access restrictions, keep to nearby sections.

  3. Yasumiya → The same Towada Hotel

Have lunch and relax by the lake, then return on your reserved shuttle. Yasumiya departures are listed at 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00 p.m.; times may change. To add a sightseeing boat or Oirase Gorge, check services and separate round-trip transportation that fits your return shuttle.

Day 4 · Lake Towada to Aomori

Leave your lakeside hotel and return to Aomori for one night.

  1. Towada Hotel → Yasumiya

After checkout, take your reserved shuttle to Yasumiya. Do not confirm a bus connection using only the roughly 15-minute shuttle estimate; choose a return service with time for getting off, moving luggage, and delays.

Frequently asked questions

Do you walk from Yasumiya to Towada Hotel?

Use the reserved shuttle if you stay at Towada Hotel. It is on the western shore in Kosaka, Akita, about 15 minutes from Yasumiya by shuttle. Contact the hotel by about 10:00 p.m. the night before; the shuttle does not run without a reservation, and times can change. Confirm both directions when booking your stay.

Hotel shuttle

Can you connect straight to a bus at Yasumiya after the hotel shuttle?

The roughly 15-minute shuttle estimate does not guarantee a connection. Allow time to get off and for delays, and match the hotel's shuttle with the Aomori-bound bus schedule for your actual date.
