Shimojishima Airport to Hirara and Miyakojima

Shimojishima Airport (SHI) is a different airport than Miyako Airport (MMY). First check the airport code on your flight ticket and the bus, pickup, and hire car pickup location.

If you are staying in Hirara city, you can take the bus to a stop in front of the public market or near the port. For southern resorts, check if the bus stops in front of your hotel. There is a bus to Tokyu Hotel, but it does not go to all other hotels. If there is no bus to the hotel, it is a good idea to check if a taxi, scheduled pick-up, or hire car is available.

Shimojishima Airport SHI and Miyako Airport MMY are different

Shimojishima Airport · みやこ下地島空港(SHI) is located in Shimojishima. To go to Hirara, Hirara, go to Irabu Island, Irabu Island, Irabu Island, Irabu Bridge, Irabu Bridge, and Irabu Bridge to Miyako Island, Miyako Island, and Miyako Island.

Miyako Airport · 宮古空港(MMY) is another airport within Miyakojima. Make sure the SHI·MMY code on your flight ticket and the pick-up/hire car pickup location are the same. There are no railways or monorails in the area, so you'll have to travel by bus or car.

Where do I catch the Shimojishima Airport bus?

  1. After completing immigration inspection and baggage pickup, go to the arrivals hall.
  2. When taking Chuo Kotsu, purchase a ticket at the reception desk near the international arrivals exit and then go to the route bus stop outside. The operator announced that as of October 24, 2026, the airport office will be unmanned and tickets will be sold upon boarding thereafter. If you arrive on transition day, first ask the staff or driver where to buy tickets.
  3. Kyoei Bus goes directly to the route bus stop outside the terminal. The official layout shows pick-up points outside the check-in area. Check ‘路線バス / BUS STOP’ and the destination of the bus.
  4. Show the driver where to get off. The notation is different between Chuo Kotsu’s ‘Pyeongbo Port’ and Kyoei Bus’s ‘Matte City Citizens’ Performance Centre’. The area in front of the public market is ‘Gongje City Market.’

This is an airport liner that can be used without reservation. The operator advises payment by cash, credit card, or barcode. Please ask the operator before use about whether to use a transport IC card and about loading conditions for large luggage or strollers.

Pay with cash or credit card when getting off. Please ask the operator separately whether or not to use a transport IC card. This is a resort line that passes through designated stops, so check if a separate fee is required when transferring to another regular route. Where can I get off in city centre Hirara and around Hirara Port?

Accommodation around the public market and Nishizato Street

Arrival hall → Airport bus stop → Irabu Bridge → Hirara Port · Matida Civic Theater · マティダ市民劇場 Nearby stop → Go to accommodation. The port is large, so getting off at a stop doesn't mean you reach all the docks.

Hilton and south-coast resort hotels

Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort · ヒルトン沖縄宮古島リゾート and Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort · キャノピーby ヒルトン沖縄宮古島リゾート is an area where you stop before entering the city after crossing Irabu Bridge. Check the stopping location for each operator and the final section to the front door of the accommodation.

Miyakojima Tokyu Hotel & Resorts · 宮古島東急ホテル＆リゾーツ is located in the southwest. Arrival hall → Airport bus stop → Irabu Ohashi → Via Hirara city and Miyako Airport → In front of Tokyu Hotel → Hotel.

Do not confuse heading to the city with heading to Tokyu Hotel.

Shigira · シギラ inn and other southern hotels are not the same as the last stop of this bus. Ask your hotel if they offer SHI pickup and if it requires advance reservation and cost. If it is a MMY-only shuttle, it cannot be used to arrive at SHI. Tokyu Hotel informs you that SHI does not provide its own shuttle service, so please distinguish between the hotel's MMY free shuttle and the airport route bus. Last airport buses and delayed flights

This is the timetable from the airport to the city centre and hotel. It's different from returning from the city to the airport.

Central Transportation to Hirara/Miyako Airport has a 16:50 departure every day, and a 18:00 departure is also displayed on Thursdays and Sundays. Don't expect there to be buses at 18:00 on other days of the week.

The last airport departure for Kyoei Bus Tokyu Hotel is at 16:50. The timetable during this period clearly states that it does not correspond to flights arriving at Jin Air, so if you are coming from Korea, check the Chuo Kotsu timetable first.

From October 25, 2026

Chuo Kotsu announces the last airport departure at 16:55 in the winter timetable. Kyoei Bus has a new guide for 17:00 departures and arrivals in Korea. Check the travel date, flight number, and operation day again in the new timetable of the relevant operator.

Kyoei Bus informs you that if the corresponding flight is delayed, the bus departure will also be delayed, but waiting restrictions may be displayed for each flight. If a flight is cancelled, corresponding buses may also be suspended. Central Transportation's waiting policy for all delayed flights has not been confirmed, so if your landing is delayed, ask the operator which flight you can take.

If the bus is over or the scheduled pickup time has passed, please notify the company of your flight number and changed arrival time. Reservation maintenance, waiting for a driver, and additional costs must be confirmed according to the reservation conditions. Please also notify your accommodation that you will arrive late.

For taxi/reservation pickup, check dispatch and total amount first.

Shimojishima Airport hire car, check pickup location and deadline

First, check whether the receiving airport on the reservation screen is SHI. Travel times are different for companies that receive services at the terminal and those that go to the sales office by shuttle. After the handover process is completed, you will be transferred to your accommodation via Irabu Island and Irabu Bridge.

This is directions to the Orix counter in the airport. Official business hours are 09:00 to 19:00 every day. There may be changes depending on holidays and periods. The name is similar to the Miyako Airport branch, so check the branch name.

Shimoji Rent-a-Car: Office Shuttle

This office is about 5 minutes away by car from SHI and offers free round-trip transportation. Business hours are 08:30~19:00. To change or cancel a reservation, you must contact the branch. Check the shuttle meeting point and airport departure time after return when making a reservation.

Closing time does not mean that the closing time is the last available time for delivery. For all of the above companies, you must check the reservation conditions for the final takeover deadline and delay, the location for maintaining and returning the reservation, and the time required to return to the airport. When there is news of typhoons or strong winds

Check the Korea Meteorological Administration warnings, airport/airline operation information, and bus suspension notices. You can't assume that your flight will be cancelled or that the Irabu Bridge will be closed just because the wind is strong. Shimojishima Airport to your hotel: questions

Are Shimojishima Airport and Miyako Airport the same place?

No. Shimojishima Airport is SHI, and Miyako Airport is MMY. When going from SHI to Hirara, you pass by Irabu Island and Irabu Bridge. Make sure your bus, pickup, or hire car reservation has the same airport code as your ticket.

Can I go to city centre Hirara by bus?

You can get there by Chuo Kotsu Airport Liner and Kyoei Bus Resort Line. For hotels near the public market, compare the stops in front of the public market, and for accommodation around Hirara Port, compare the Hirara Port (Matida Civic Theater) stop on Chuo Kotsu or the Matida Civic Theater stop on Kyoei Bus. One-way fares for adults are 600 yen for this section for both operators, and the final transfer to accommodation is separate.

What transportation should I compare if my accommodation is in a southern resort area?

The Kyoei Bus Resort Line runs in front of the Miyakojima Tokyu Hotel, takes about 56 minutes from the airport, and costs 800 yen one way for adults. Since the bus does not pass through all other southern hotels such as Shigira, please compare the SHI pickup at the hotel and taxi/hire car separately.

Where should I board and get off the airport bus?

This does not mean waiting for all arriving flights. For Chuo Kotsu and reservation pickups, notify the operator of your flight number and changed arrival time to check whether there will be a wait and additional charges.

What should I do if I arrive late and it is past the hire car pick-up time?

Contact the branch where you made your reservation first to see if same-day pickup is possible and if your reservation can be held until the next day. Don't think you can get your car after business closes. If pickup is difficult, ask the official taxi company if they can dispatch a taxi and notify your accommodation of the delay in arrival.

What should I check when taking a taxi from the airport to the hotel?

Use the official taxi rank or a company listed by the airport, and provide the address of your accommodation, number of passengers, and number of bags. The airport provides a reference price of approximately 25 minutes to the city and 4,000 yen, but it is not a fixed price. Check with the company about meter rates, surcharges, reservation/pickup costs, payment methods, and actual dispatch availability.
