Four days in Yamanashi: add Kofu?

For art and ruins, stay one Kofu night then two Kawaguchiko nights. Visit the museum on day one, walk the ruins on day two and take K1 from north Kofu Station to Kawaguchiko. Continue with the north shore and gem museum.

For more lakeside time without changing hotels, stay three Kawaguchiko nights. Spread out the ropeway, Oishi Park and World Heritage Center and Appare. A Kofu day trip has different travel from an overnight stay followed by a hotel move; compare the return day-trip guidance below.

Kofu art and castle ruins, Kawaguchiko north shore and gem displays

See Kofu's art museum and castle ruins before moving to Kawaguchiko for two nights. Choose this for north-shore and gem visits. Transfer between cities on day two using a K1 bus from Kofu Station's north side.

Day 1 · Kofu Station south stand 1 → art museum → station

  1. Kofu Station south stand 1 → Prefectural art museum

Arrive in Kofu in time for a morning museum visit and go to south-side bus terminal stand 1. Use a designated service stopping at the prefectural art museum, such as route 35 towards Nirasaki Station via Okusa. In the official timetable for both directions, check station departure and museum arrival alongside weekday, weekend/holiday and specified-period symbols (○/●/×). Change dates for closures such as Mondays, the following day if Monday is a public holiday, and days after public holidays. For a late arrival, adjust viewing and meal time or change the museum day.

  2. Facility entrance → North and south building displays

In the morning, explore nature displays in the north building and culture displays in the south. The centre is usually open from 9 am to 5 pm, from 8:30 am to 6 pm in July–August and from 9 am to 4:30 pm in December–February. The facility guide lists last entry 15 minutes before closing, while its official FAQ gives a different time of 4:30 pm. Confirm directly first for a late visit. The south building closes on the fourth Tuesday each month, or the following day if it is a public holiday. The north is listed as open year-round; check temporary notices. Return from the centre to the station, have lunch and rest, then go to Funatsu pier. The operator allows about 10 minutes on foot to the ticket office and pier, opposite the prefectural free Funatsu car park. This entrance differs from the lakeside ropeway station across National Route 137. Check your date against regular, summer and winter sailing periods and scheduled suspensions, then choose an afternoon Appare service. Allow time for the centre return, lunch, pier walk and ticket queue; the roughly 20-minute cruise returns to the same pier. Crowds, capacity and weather may prevent boarding your preferred service, so check availability at the pier. If Appare is suspended after your morning centre visit, skip the cruise and return to your station-area accommodation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit Kofu as a day trip while staying in Kawaguchiko?

Coordinate a morning Kofu-bound and afternoon Kawaguchiko-bound K1 service for a day trip. Check both directions and viewing time for your date. The four-day itinerary covering art and ruins stays one Kofu night, visits the ruins the next day and moves to Kawaguchiko. Compare viewing scope, transport and accommodation separately from a day trip returning to the same Kawaguchiko hotel.
