Viewpoint and gem museum

Stay one night near Kawaguchiko Station, visiting the ropeway viewpoint on day one and gem displays on day two. Choose the viewpoint in good weather. Plan to leave in the afternoon after the second day's visit.

Day 1 · Kawaguchiko Station → ropeway viewpoint → station

  1. Kawaguchiko Station → Ropeway lakeside station

Arrive at Kawaguchiko Station around noon and have lunch nearby. The official guide allows about 15 minutes on foot to the lakeside ropeway station. Ride the ropeway first in the afternoon, then take a short lakeside walk after descending. Allow for viewpoint time and queues, finishing before the last uphill and downhill services. Check seasonal last-service times with the operator.

  2. Ropeway lakeside station → Kawaguchiko Station and the same accommodation

If wind stops the ropeway or queues are long, skip it and rest beside the lake. Kofu's art museum is in another city and is not an immediate substitute today. Return to the station area for dinner and stay at the same accommodation.

Strong winds or inspections can stop the ropeway. Check last uphill and downhill services and suspension notices for your date.

Day 2 · Kawaguchiko Station → Yamanashi Gem Museum → station

  1. Kawaguchiko Station → Yamanashi Gem Museum

From station stand 1, take the Red Line towards Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center. In the timetable for your date, match station departure with arrival at stop 6, Yamanashi Gem Museum/Kawaguchiko, and choose a return service. Follow museum signs from the stop to the exhibition entrance. Allow walking time after the bus ride.

  2. Facility entrance → Mineral and gemstone displays

The museum closes on Wednesdays except public holidays, Golden Week and July–August. Adjust your dates rather than treating a visit to the free shop as a substitute for the museum. Winter opening is 9:30 am; match your chosen bus arrival with the actual opening time.

  3. Yamanashi Gem Museum → Return to station and accommodation

Explore gemstone and mineral displays in the morning. Unlike day one's Mount Fuji views, today is an indoor visit; plan lunch and a break near the museum. For the return, go to the Kawaguchiko Station-bound stop and take your chosen service. The same stop name appears again in the loop timetable, so match museum departure with station arrival on the return section. Choose a bus you can reach after the visit, lunch and walk to the stop. Book an afternoon departure, allowing for bus delays and departure preparations at the station. This visit does not fit a morning departure.

Verified costs and exclusions: JPY 1,960 (partial total for one adult)

Included: Adult ropeway return JPY 1,000 through October 2026; adult gem exhibition JPY 600 + regular Red Line Kawaguchiko Station ↔ museum fares JPY 180 × 2 = JPY 960.

Extra costs and conditions: This subtotal excludes one night's accommodation, meals, luggage storage, return travel outside the prefecture, separate activities and shopping. Kofu collection exhibition and castle ruins

Choose this for art from the museum's collection and Kofu Castle's stone walls and reconstructed buildings. Stay one night near Kofu Station. Take a museum bus on the first morning, then walk from the station to the castle ruins the following day.

Day 1 · Kofu Station south stand 1 → art museum → station

  1. Kofu Station south stand 1 → Prefectural art museum

Arrive in Kofu in time for a morning museum visit and go to south-side bus terminal stand 1. Use a designated service stopping at the prefectural art museum, such as route 35 towards Nirasaki Station via Okusa. In the official timetable for both directions, check station departure and museum arrival alongside weekday, weekend/holiday and specified-period symbols (○/●/×). Change dates for closures such as Mondays, the following day if Monday is a public holiday, and days after public holidays. For a late arrival, adjust viewing and meal time or change the museum day.

  2. Art museum → Station and the same accommodation

Day 2 · Kofu Station south side → Maizuru Castle Park → station

  1. Kofu Station south side → Maizuru Castle Park

Start from Kofu Station's south exit in the morning. The tourism association allows about three minutes on foot to Maizuru Castle Park. See stone walls and reconstructed gates; on opening days, enter Inari Turret and Kurogane Gate. Today covers surviving walls and castle ruins separately from yesterday's art visit. If climbing to the keep platform is difficult, choose lower-park paths instead of the stair climb to the view.

  2. Facility entrance → Castle ruins walk and open buildings

Inari Turret and Kurogane Gate are open from 9 am to 4:30 pm, with entry until 4 pm. They close on Mondays, days after public holidays and 29 December–3 January, but open when Monday is a public holiday. The park itself is always open; on building closure days, limit the visit to the outdoor ruins. In heavy rain, avoid climbing around the high walls and shorten the visit.

  3. Maizuru Castle Park → Kofu Station and departure preparations

Retrace your walk to Kofu Station's south exit after the visit, have lunch and take your departure service. The official three-minute park–south-exit walk excludes viewing, meals and walking to your platform. Plan to leave on an afternoon Chuo Line train; an early morning departure leaves little time for the ruins.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fit the gem museum before a morning departure on day two?

A morning departure leaves too little time for the final gem museum visit. This plan views the exhibition in the morning, returns to the station and leaves in the afternoon. To move it to day one, check arrival time, museum hours and ropeway queues together.
