Nebuta exhibits, park walks or mountains?

Check WA RASSE for Nebuta, or Hakkoda-Maru for railway and harbour history. Jomon ruins, art museum, Hirosaki Park, Hakkoda and Lake Towada offer different days out. Compare prices, hours and access in attraction guidance, then choose a route matching your stay below.

Routes by trip length

Stay near Aomori Station to split exhibits without changing hotels. Compare split-city stays for Hirosaki Park too. For Hakkoda day or two lake nights, check mountain-bus and lakeside-accommodation return conditions as well.

2 days, 1 night

Stay one Aomori night with separate WA RASSE and Jomon days, or one Hirosaki night for park and museum. Both routes keep the same hotel in one city.

3 days, 2 nights

Two Aomori nights give Nebuta, ruins and art separate days. Choose one night each in Hirosaki and Aomori for Hirosaki Park too.

4 days, 3 nights

Stay three Aomori nights with a Hakkoda day, or visit harbour ferry exhibits then move to Hirosaki for one night. Choose mountain routes only when buses and ropeway operate.

5 days, 4 nights

Separate Hakkoda and park visits with three Aomori nights and one Hirosaki night, or rest two lake nights between one Aomori night at either end. Secure lakeside accommodation return transport first. Winter Aomori buses do not reach Yasumiya.

Where to stay

Aomori Station · 青森駅

Choose this base for walking to WA RASSE and the waterfront, or buses to Sannai-Maruyama and Hakkoda. It is different from Shin-Aomori, where Shinkansen trains arrive; check the station name when booking accommodation.

Check return transport and trip costs

Can I catch my booked train after final-day sightseeing?

Choose return Nebutan-go buses for the ruins or a return taxi for the art museum first. Reaching Aomori Station does not give immediate access to Shin-Aomori’s Shinkansen or flights. Add airport/Shin-Aomori connections and formalities to fit your own departure.

Choose a day’s route around what you want to see

Aomori Prefecture is not one neighbourhood. Separate station harbour, Jomon ruins and art museum, Hirosaki, Hakkoda and Lake Towada areas; plan city-exhibit days apart from city-transfer days. Routes below are editorial suggestions based on official access guidance.

Aomori Station waterfront: Nebuta and ferry exhibits

Nebuta Museum WA RASSE · ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ

Walk roughly one minute from the station for arrival-day Nebuta exhibits and harbour walking. For railway and harbour history too, choose a next-day Hakkoda-Maru route.

The Aomori/Hakodate Ferryboat Memorial Ship Hakkoda-Maru · 青函連絡船メモリアルシップ八甲田丸

Walk roughly five minutes from the station and enter on floor 2. Combined-ticket sales ended; use separate admission costs.

Jomon ruins and art museum: separate days despite proximity

Sannai-Maruyama Historical Site · 三内丸山遺跡

Aomori Museum of Art · 青森県立美術館

Spend one day on Jomon-life displays and outdoor ruins, then take your time at the art museum the next day. Two Aomori nights allow separate visits. Use return Nebutan-go buses from the station’s west side for the ruins. For art day, leave from the station’s city-bus stop and return by taxi. Plan each facility’s outward and return transport separately.

Hirosaki: walk to park and museum

Hirosaki Park · 弘前公園

Hirosaki City Museum · 弘前市立博物館

Stay one Hirosaki night for gates and moats first and museum exhibits next day. The station–park walk is roughly 30 minutes, continuing inside Otemon to the museum. Station-front and park-area stays involve different amounts of walking. Keep interiors are closed; museum fees and dates vary by exhibition. Choose free park walks separately from paid exhibits.

Hakkoda: a day for mountain scenery

Hakkoda Ropeway · 八甲田ロープウェー

Set aside a mountain day from your Aomori accommodation. Take a JR bus to the ropeway stop and go to the base station. The roughly 10-minute ride reaches Summit Park Station, but trail opening and return buses need separate checks. For wind or maintenance suspensions, choose open city exhibits or rest.

Lake Towada: two restful nights rather than a day walk

Lake Towada Yasumiya · 十和田湖休屋

The five-day route places two lake nights between one Aomori night at either end. Towada Hotel in this example crosses into Kosaka, Akita, reached by a reserved shuttle of roughly 15 minutes from Yasumiya. For other lakeside hotels, check their own return transport. Winter Aomori JR buses end at Sukayu, so this autumn Yasumiya example does not apply.

Meals and treats in the area you are walking

Decide between Aomori Station and Hirosaki Park-area meals first. Prefecture-wide specialties and dishes available in the neighbourhood you are visiting differ.

Choose apple pie during a Hirosaki walk

The association’s April 2026 21st-edition apple-pie map marks eat-in locations. Separate station/park lunch maps help choose meals and treats along your route. Baking times, sellouts and hours vary; map inclusion does not confirm availability on your date.

Where is ichigoni from?

Ichigoni is sea-urchin and abalone soup. Prefectural tourism presents it as a Pacific-side dish, including Hachinohe · 八戸. Hachinohe is a different city from Aomori and Hirosaki; make a separate transport-inclusive plan to go there for it. When staying in Aomori or Hirosaki, check whether nearby restaurants offer it first.
