Visit this indoor Nebuta exhibition even outside festival dates. Near Aomori Station, it fits an arrival-day visit.

- HoursMay–August: 09:00–19:00; September–April: 09:00–18:00. Last entry 30 minutes before closing. Whole-building closures: 9–10 August, 31 December–1 January, and temporary closure 11 October 2026.

Sannai-Maruyama Historical Site
三内丸山遺跡
Explore Jomon life through pottery, clay figures and reconstructed daily-life exhibits, then continue outdoors to the ruins. Start indoors in rain.
- PricesGeneral admission ¥500; university students and equivalent ¥250; high school age and younger free. Special exhibitions separate.
- Hours09:00–17:00, extended to 18:00 during Golden Week and June–September. Last entry 30 minutes before closing. Closed on the fourth Monday each month, or the next day for public holidays, 30 December–1 January and scheduled maintenance days.
- Getting thereBoard Nebutan-go at Aomori Station west-side stop 2 to 三内丸山遺跡前, adult ¥300 per ride. Check the return before leaving. The prefectural transport portal lists roughly one minute’s walk from the stop. From the roundabout, go to Jomon Jiyukan · 縄文時遊館 for tickets/entry.

Aomori Museum of Art
青森県立美術館
Approach Yoshitomo Nara’s Aomori-Ken sculpture when the outdoor passage opens. Choose sculpture viewing separately from indoor exhibits; allocate time according to whether you want both.

- Getting thereTake a Sannai-Maruyama-bound city bus from Aomori Station stop 6 to 県立美術館前. The city’s 2026 timetable lists adult one-way ¥280. Check dated departures and routing. Nebutan-go from Shin-Aomori’s east side is another option; keep different bus fares separate. Walk left along the sidewalk, then right at entrance signs. The official summer video lists roughly two minutes from stop to entrance. From first-floor general information, take the gallery elevator to basement level 2. Ticketing/gallery access add time; follow winter routes during snow.
- View Aomori-Ken close upFree close-up access is available when the outdoor passage opens. It has stairs; return walking alone takes roughly 10–15 minutes. Passage hours are 09:45–16:30, with entrance locked at 16:30. It opened on 21 April in 2026 and closes around the onset of snow. Check dated access; indoor collection admission is separate.

Hirosaki Park
弘前公園
Plan a walk around gates and moats. Hirosaki Castle’s keep interior has been closed since 24 November 2025 for an unspecified period. Park walks and keep interiors are separate.
- PricesFree walking and paid park areas differ. Routes below use free areas; check management guidance for dated Honmaru/northern-area opening and fees before adding them.
- HoursKeep interiors are closed. Some southern Honmaru sections have access restrictions and temporary-stair detours until around 31 March 2027. Hitsujisaru turret surroundings are also closed. Check paid-area hours for your date.
- Getting thereWalk towards Dotemachi from Hirosaki Station to Otemon. Official station walking time is roughly 30 minutes; hotel approaches and park walks add separate time.
Hakkoda Ropeway
八甲田ロープウェー
Choose mountain views instead of city exhibits. A Summit Park Station ticket does not confirm every hiking trail is open. Winter hiking and skiing need different preparation from ordinary walks; plan them separately.
- PricesJunior high age and older: ¥2,500 return/¥1,550 one way; elementary school: ¥700 return/¥450 one way; preschool free. Rates revised 1 August 2026.
- HoursUsually starts 09:00, brought forward in October 2026 to 08:30 weekdays or 08:15 weekends/public holidays. Last departure: 16:20 March–early November; 15:40 mid-November–February. Riding takes roughly 10 minutes. Planned maintenance/power-work suspension 8–20 November 2026; omit mountain visits then. Check dated weather suspensions and downward departures.
- Getting thereTake a JR bus towards Lake Towada/Sukayu from Aomori Station to ロープウェー駅前, adult one-way ¥1,290. Autumn/winter routes and reservations differ; check both journeys officially for your date. Eligible winter departures from Aomori/Shin-Aomori need advance reservations and ¥300 per ride reservation fee. The notice does not accept reservations for Aomori-bound returns from the ropeway stop.

This ferry carried trains across the sea. Explore first-floor railway vehicles and third-floor reconstructions of the former Aomori station-front apple market and ferry waiting room.

- HoursApril–October: 09:00–19:00, last entry 18:00. November–March: 09:00–17:00, last entry 16:30; closed Mondays, next day for public holidays. Also closed 31 December–1 January and Monday–Friday of March’s second week. Fourth-floor viewing may close in winter or poor weather.
- Getting thereWalk roughly five minutes from Aomori Station. Enter via second-floor boarding entrance and ticket desk for onboard exhibits. Station walking, ticketing and onboard viewing need separate time.

Hirosaki City Museum

- HoursThe Sugae Masumi Tsugaru-travel exhibition runs 3 October–29 November 2026, 09:30–16:30. Planned closures 19 October and 16 November.
- Getting thereFollow the left arrow inside Otemon, walk the wooded path between tennis courts and the plaza and turn right to the museum.
Lake Towada Yasumiya shore
Lake Towada Yasumiya十和田湖休屋
Two Lake Towada nights allow slower shore walks and hotel rests. Towada Hotel on the western shore in Kosaka, Akita, is not beside Yasumiya stop; use reserved shuttles.
- Viewing and access conditionsPrefectural tourism lists roughly 15 minutes from stop to Maiden Statue; the environment ministry lists five from central Yasumiya to shrine. Different starting points mean the whole walk is not necessarily 20 minutes. Check boat operation, Oirase walking transport and returns separately.
- Bus and hotel transfersTake JR buses towards Lake Towada from Aomori and check both journeys first. Winter Aomori routes end at Sukayu, without continuing to Yasumiya. Towada Hotel’s reserved shuttle takes roughly 15 minutes from Yasumiya. Reserve by around 22:00 the night before; no reservation means no operation. Do not assume other hotels have the same shuttle.
- Towada Hotel shuttle timesHotel–Yasumiya departures: 08:30, 09:30, 10:30; Yasumiya–hotel: 15:00, 16:00, 17:00. Reserved services run at fixed times, subject to change without notice. Check return availability with the hotel for lakeside walks during your stay.

Interior visits have been suspended since 24 November 2025 for an unspecified period. Plan gates, moats and park walking separately from keep interiors.

Online purchases are listed as unsupported. Individual adult admission is ¥620 onsite; nearby-facility combined tickets ended in late March 2025.
