Aoshima and the city shrine

Spend one night at the same accommodation near Miyazaki Station. Visit Aoshima on the first afternoon and the city shrine the next morning, then leave Miyazaki.

Day 1

Explore Aoshima Shrine and the coast around the island on day 1, then stay in Miyazaki city.

  1. Miyazaki Station → Aoshima Station

Choose a Nichinan Line train from Miyazaki that stops at Aoshima. Distinguish it from Miyazaki Airport services. If changing at Minami-Miyazaki, check platforms and the connection. Search both journeys for your travel date first and plan to leave the island before sunset. The reference adult local-train fare is ¥450 one way.

  2. Aoshima Station → Aoshima Shrine and return to the station

Walk approximately 10 minutes/800 m from Aoshima Station, cross Yayoi Bridge and enter the shrine. Give the shrine visit and coastal walk separate time. Ordinary shrine visits are free; listed opening runs from 06:00 until sunset. Allow time to leave the island before dark and return to the station.

  3. Aoshima Shrine and return to the station → Miyazaki Station: the same accommodation

Retrace your walk to Aoshima Station and take a local train towards Miyazaki. A service terminating at Minami-Miyazaki requires a separate transfer; check your final arrival station in the actual search result. The reference adult one-way fare is ¥450. After reaching Miyazaki Station, have a meal in the city and return to the same accommodation.

Obi's streets and Udo Jingu

Stay one night in Nichinan, giving Obi and Udo Jingu a day each. Rent a car in Miyazaki, walk Obi on day 1, then visit Udo and return the car the next day. Choose this after setting accommodation, car park and return-branch addresses and your departure.

Day 1

Rent a car in Miyazaki, walk Obi Castle Town and stay in Nichinan.

  1. Miyazaki car pickup branch → Obi tourist car park

Drive south to Obi from your booked Miyazaki pickup branch. Set navigation to Obi Castle Tourist Car Park (飫肥城観光駐車場), as listed by the preservation association. Ordinary passenger cars park free.

  2. Obi tourist car park → Castle town and optional indoor facilities

Park and walk the streets around the castle. For indoor exhibits, you can choose adult individual history museum admission at ¥300. The operating preservation association lists museum hours as 09:30–16:30. Arrive with time for indoor exhibits and check temporary closures separately. If you arrive late without confirming opening or last admission, skip the indoor visit and walk the castle streets. The association's ¥800 combined ticket covers six facilities. Check which will be open, then compare it with individual admission.

  3. Castle town and optional indoor facilities → Nichinan accommodation

Toyota's official prices distinguish six, twelve and twenty-four hours, subsequent twenty-four-hour periods and excess hours; they vary by vehicle, area and season. Do not automatically price one night as twenty-four hours. This is a checking route if you choose that operator, not confirmed vehicle availability or pricing for this itinerary. Without a car, compare one-night, two-day route A based at Miyazaki Station. To visit both Udo and Obi by public transport over two days, first check visit-date bus connections and Udo's detour walking route.

Day 2

  1. Nichinan accommodation → Udo tourist car park

Drive from your accommodation to Udo Jingu. The latest official access guidance says road collapse prevents entry to car parks 1 and 2 and directs visitors to the tourist car park, approximately 20 minutes from the main sanctuary. Check current reopening/change notices before departure and follow the applicable parking directions.

  2. Udo tourist car park → Cave sanctuary and return to the car park

From the tourist car park, follow the grounds and stairs to visit the cave sanctuary, then return to the same car park. The 20-minute estimate describes access from the car park to the sanctuary, not the return trip or shrine visit.

  3. Cave sanctuary and return to the car park → Booked return branch and departure point

Collect the car and travel towards your contracted return branch. Refuel according to the contract, then complete the staff vehicle check and any additional payment. Allow separate time to travel from the return branch to your actual train or flight departure point.

Car return procedureCar return and fuel settlementUdo access and hours

Udo's operator lists approximately 60 minutes from Miyazaki city via National Route 220 and approximately 20 minutes from Nichinan city. These are not exact times from your booked accommodation to the tourist car park or shrine to return branch. Do not extend the last shrine visit based only on Udo's 06:00–18:00 opening. Work backwards from the final departure procedures, car park return walk, shrine visit, driving, refuelling and car return. Choose a flight for this route after checking current road conditions, the actual return branch and departure time.

Toyota supplies cars with a full tank; if you do not refuel before returning, fuel charges are settled under its rules. Follow your booked operator's return and refuelling terms. Check whether return is to the same branch and charges for exceeding the contracted time in the quote.

Admission and transport cost coverage: Required rental car, fuel and parking: check for your dates and vehicle

Included: Admission: ordinary Udo shrine visits and outdoor Obi walks free; optional Obi history museum ¥300 per adult or combined ticket ¥800

Extra costs and conditions: Required costs: vehicle rental from day 1 pickup to day 2 return, fuel and car parks used; accommodation, meals and departure transport separate; tolls extra if using toll roads

Even with free outdoor visits, route B requires car rental across two days and fuel. Obi Castle Tourist Car Park is free for ordinary passenger cars. Check charges at the Udo tourist car park and your accommodation separately. Obtain a total rental quote from the official operator using pickup/return dates and times, vehicle, protection/options and return branch. Add tolls if choosing toll roads.
