Three days in Nagano: where should you spend the middle day?
With two nights in Matsumoto, you can visit the castle, City Museum of Art and City Museum on separate days. If Hokusai and town walks appeal more, stay in Nagano and use the middle day for Obuse. On either route, you stay at the same accommodation for both nights and return to your base city's station after the last visit.

Frequently asked questions
Do I transfer directly from JR Nagano Station for Obuse?
Nagano Dentetsu trains to Obuse leave from a separate underground station. From JR's second-floor gates, exit towards Zenkoji Exit/MIDORI, take the right-hand escalator outside to floor 1, then descend underground and go left to Nagano Dentetsu. The operator advises approximately 15 minutes including ticket purchase. Do not assume a short transfer simply by matching JR arrival and Dentetsu departure times.
