Beppu hells or Yufuin walks?
In Beppu, split Kannawa’s five hells and Chinoike/Tatsumaki over two days. For hot spring town walks, choose one night in Yufuin. Omit day 2 sightseeing for a morning flight.

Day 1: Kitahama, accommodation and Kannawa’s five hells
Leave luggage at your accommodation after Kitahama, then go to Kannawa. Reduce the number of hells to fit the time before 17:00 closing.
- Kitahama and accommodation → Umi Jigoku-mae
Get off the airport bus at Kitahama, leave luggage at your accommodation, then go to Beppu Station west bay 3. Take an APU-bound route 5 to Umi Jigoku-mae for Kannawa’s five nearby hells. Choose your return from the official weekday or weekend timetable first.

- Kannawa → Five hells visit
Explore Umi, Oniishibozu, Kamado, Oniyama and Shiraike hells in the nearby area. Allow walking between facilities, visits and queues, choosing places you can leave before 17:00. The combined ticket costs ¥2,400 and is not a bathing ticket. Visit fewer places if arriving late.
- Umi Jigoku-mae → Beppu Station west side and accommodation
After visiting, return to the Beppu Station west-bound stop at Umi Jigoku-mae. Allow walking between facilities to fit 17:00 closing and your bus departure. Return to the station, eat and rest at your accommodation. Ordinary adult route 5 fares are ¥390 one way or ¥780 return.

After leaving luggage at your accommodation from Kitahama, go to the Kannawa-bound bay west of Beppu Station. Allow walking between facilities and back to the return stop. Reduce your visit scope to catch the bus after facility closing.
Day 2: Chinoike and Tatsumaki, then the airport
After Chinoike and Tatsumaki, collect your luggage and go to Kitahama’s airport-bound stop. Omit both visits if they do not fit airport procedures.
- Beppu Station east side → Chinoike and Tatsumaki
Prepare a ¥1,100 Kamenoi Bus Mini day pass for this day, then take route 26 from Beppu Station east bay 5 to Chinoike Jigoku-mae. Distinguish this from yesterday’s west-side bay. Choose actual-date return services from the official timetable and allow time to wait for Tatsumaki’s eruption.

- Chinoike Jigoku-mae → Beppu Station
After visiting, take the route 16 outer loop towards Beppu Station from Chinoike Jigoku-mae. Route 26 continues towards Kannawa, so distinguish the directions. Add the walk from the facilities to the stop when choosing your official return service.
- Beppu accommodation → Kitahama airport-bound boarding point
Collect luggage and go to Kitahama’s airport-bound boarding point. Choose walking or transport based on your accommodation’s address, allowing its time and cost separately. Distinguish the airport-bound boarding location from your inbound airport drop-off.
Check the actual route and travel time from your accommodation to Kitahama’s airport-bound boarding point.
- Kitahama airport-bound boarding point → Oita Airport
Choose an airport-bound bus in your date’s official timetable with a buffer before your airline’s check-in deadline. The adult fare is ¥1,600 one way. Add road-delay and airport-procedure time to the scheduled arrival. Reduce or omit final-day sightseeing if you cannot catch this bus afterwards.
Leave east bay 5 on route 26 and distinguish the return direction on route 16. This day’s ¥1,100 Mini day pass is included. Allow facility entrance walks and eruption waits separately. Omit today’s sightseeing if collecting luggage and reaching Kitahama’s airport bus leave insufficient time for airport procedures.
Included items: Combined hells ticket ¥2,400, day 1 route 5 return ¥780, Kitahama airport bus return ¥3,200; day 2 Kamenoi Bus Mini day pass ¥1,100 for route 26 outward and route 16 return
Costs outside the subtotal: Accommodation, meals, flights, bathing, private facilities, luggage storage and extra travel between accommodation, Kitahama, stations and bus centres.
This subtotal adds the combined hells ticket and the route’s listed transport and admission. Day 2’s ¥1,100 Mini day pass is included in ¥7,480. Do not reuse the same day pass on another date; it does not replace hell admission. Accommodation, meals, flights and bathing are extra.

Separate Yunotsubo Street and Lake Kinrin walks
Choose this for gentle walks along the shopping street and lakeside. Stay one night near Yufuin Station, walking Yunotsubo Street on day 1 and Lake Kinrin on day 2. Fit walks around accommodation meals, pickup and the departure-day airport bus.
Day 1: airport, Yufuin accommodation and Yunotsubo Street
Leave luggage at your Yufuin accommodation before walking Yunotsubo Street. For a late arrival, prioritize dinner and check-in at your accommodation.
- Oita Airport → Yufuin Station
Take a bus from Oita Airport to the bus centre in front of Yufuin Station. The adult fare is ¥2,000 one way. Choose a service from the official timetable below that you can board after arrival procedures and baggage collection; shorten street walks for late arrivals.

- Yufuin accommodation → Yunotsubo Street
Leave luggage at your accommodation near Yufuin Station. If daylight remains, have lunch and browse shops on Yunotsubo Street. Shop hours vary; for late arrivals, limit plans to a shorter walk and your accommodation meal. Return in time for your ryokan’s check-in, dinner and pickup arrangements.
Confirm the actual Yufuin-bound airport bus and boarding point, then get off at the bus centre. Leave luggage before walking. For late arrivals, shorten the walk and keep your accommodation dinner and check-in times.
Day 2: Lake Kinrin, bus centre and airport
Walk by Lake Kinrin, then take an airport bus from the bus centre in front of Yufuin Station.
- Yufuin Station and accommodation → Lake Kinrin
After checkout, if your accommodation can store luggage, walk from the station towards Yunotsubo Street and Lake Kinrin. Yufu city’s 2023 map gives about 25 minutes from station to lake. Returning the same way means about 50 minutes of walking alone; shopping, photos, breaks and accommodation access add time. Shorten lake walks to fit the airport return. Morning mist is not guaranteed.

Choose an airport-bound bus in your date’s official timetable with a buffer before the airline’s check-in deadline. The adult fare is ¥2,000 one way. Add road delays and airport procedures to its scheduled arrival. Reduce or omit final-day sightseeing if it prevents catching this bus. Yufuin airport buses do not guarantee flight connections.
Return from Lake Kinrin to collect luggage, then go to the Yufuin Station bus centre. Buses are not scheduled to guarantee flight connections; shorten walks or take an earlier bus if procedure time is tight. If you need an earlier airport arrival, change the previous night’s accommodation base.
Included items: Two ordinary airport–Yufuin one-way tickets at ¥2,000 each
Costs outside the subtotal: Accommodation, meals, flights, bathing, private facilities, luggage storage and extra travel between accommodation, Kitahama, stations and bus centres.
Only checked ordinary section fares are added. This is not a trip total including accommodation and meals. Cafés, private facilities and accommodation pickup are excluded from the airport bus return fare.
Hells bus passes and airport return routes
Do I need both a hells ticket and a city bus pass?
The combined hells ticket and bus pass are separate. This route uses ordinary day 1 route 5 return fares of ¥780, and a ¥1,100 Mini day pass for day 2 route 26 outward and route 16 return. It does not use one day pass across two days.
The Mini pass covers Beppu city hells and Kijima Kogen areas. For Yufuin, check Wide pass coverage and compare ordinary fares. The bus pass excludes Oita Kotsu airport buses, JR, ropeway and hell admission. The Yufuin-only one-night Course B adds no Beppu bus pass.

Where do airport buses leave from in Beppu and Yufuin?
Keep final-day route sightseeing short before returning to the airport. Use Kitahama’s airport-bound boarding point in Beppu or the station-front bus centre in Yufuin. Check Kitahama’s outward boarding location separately from your arrival drop-off.
Choose an actual-date official service with a buffer before airline procedure deadlines. Allow luggage collection and accommodation–stop travel too; confirm storage with the accommodation. Shorten or omit final-day sightseeing if no suitable bus remains afterwards.
The checked Yufuin–airport timetable covers October 1–24, 2026. For October 25 onwards, check the new timetable for your date. Airport buses do not guarantee connections to flight check-in.
