Stay in Beppu and visit Yufuin for the day

Choose this for Yufuin street and lake walks while keeping your Beppu accommodation. Stay three nights at the same place near Beppu Station and make a Yufuin day trip.

Day 1: airport, Kannawa’s five hells and Beppu accommodation

Visit Kannawa’s five hells, then return to Beppu accommodation. Do not try to fit all five after a late arrival.

  1. Oita Airport and Beppu accommodation → Route 5 to Umi Jigoku-mae

Get off the airport bus at Kitahama, leave luggage at your accommodation, then go to Beppu Station west bay 3. Take an APU-bound route 5 to Umi Jigoku-mae for Kannawa’s five nearby hells. Choose your return from the official weekday or weekend timetable first.

  2. Kannawa facility entrances → Five hells visit and bus preparation

Finish walking between entrances as well as visits by 17:00. Visit fewer places if arriving late.

  3. Return to Beppu Station → Dinner and the same accommodation

Take a Beppu Station west-bound route 5 from Umi Jigoku-mae. Return for dinner and rest. Combined ticket ¥2,400, return route 5 buses ¥780 and airport fare ¥1,600 total ¥4,780 in confirmed items.

After leaving luggage at your accommodation from Kitahama, go to the Kannawa-bound bay west of Beppu Station. Allow walking between facilities and back to the return stop. Reduce your visit scope to catch the bus after facility closing.

Day 2: Chinoike and Tatsumaki, then Beppu accommodation

Use yesterday’s combined ticket for Chinoike and Tatsumaki, then rest at your Beppu accommodation.

  1. Beppu accommodation and east bay 5 → Route 26 to Chinoike Jigoku-mae

Prepare today’s ¥1,100 Kamenoi Bus Mini day pass and take route 26 from Beppu Station east bay 5 to Chinoike Jigoku-mae. Return on the route 16 outer loop towards Beppu Station. Route 26 heads towards Kannawa, rather than the same return direction. Check official weekday/weekend schedules and allow walks to entrances and eruption waits.

  2. Chinoike Jigoku-mae → Visit the two remaining hells

Check both services for your travel day and visit Chinoike and Tatsumaki. Yesterday’s combined hells ticket allows one visit per facility through today. Allow Tatsumaki eruption waits and stop–entrance walks separately.

  3. Chinoike Jigoku-mae and Beppu Station → Route 16 return, lunch and Beppu accommodation

Return to the station for lunch and rest at your accommodation. Today’s Mini day pass covers buses; hell admission is separate. Day 1 route 5 buses were calculated at ordinary fares, so do not apply today’s pass to yesterday.

Leave east bay 5 on route 26 and distinguish route 16’s return direction. This day’s ¥1,100 Mini day pass is included. Allow entrance walks and eruption waits separately. Visit only facilities not yet used on yesterday’s combined ticket, then return to your Beppu accommodation. There is no airport trip today.

Day 3: Yufuin day walk, then Beppu accommodation

Leave large luggage at your Beppu accommodation for the Yufuin day trip. Allow time to return from Lake Kinrin to the bus centre.

  1. Beppu accommodation → Route 36, then Yunotsubo Street and Lake Kinrin walks

Take route 36 from Beppu Station west bay 1 to Yufuin. Walk from the station along Yunotsubo Street to Lake Kinrin, about 25 minutes away. Shopping, photos, breaks and the return walk take extra time.

  2. Ropeway bus stop → Observatory visit, then Beppu-bound bus

Walk from the stop to the lower station, buy a return ticket and ride up. Allow descent queues and the walk to the stop before coming down. Return buses ¥1,000 and ropeway ¥1,800 are separate payments. Descend, then return to Beppu Station west side on route 36 from the ropeway stop.

Check the actual route and travel time from your accommodation to Kitahama’s airport-bound boarding point.

  4. Kitahama airport-bound boarding point → Oita Airport

Choose an airport-bound bus in your date’s official timetable with a buffer before your airline’s check-in deadline. The adult fare is ¥1,600 one way. Add road-delay and airport-procedure time to the scheduled arrival. Reduce or omit final-day sightseeing if you cannot catch this bus afterwards.

Choose route 36 outward and return services from the west-side bay that actually stop at the ropeway. The stop–facility walk is about one minute; ticket purchase, boarding and descent queues take extra time. Omit the ropeway if returning to Beppu, collecting luggage and reaching Kitahama leave too little time for airport procedures.

Subtotal of the items included below: ¥12,480

Included items: Combined hells ticket ¥2,400, route 5 return ¥780, ropeway return ¥1,800, route 36 ropeway buses return ¥1,000, Kitahama airport bus return ¥3,200, Yufuin day-trip return ¥2,200; day 2 Kamenoi Bus Mini day pass ¥1,100 for route 26 outward and route 16 return

Costs outside the subtotal: Accommodation, meals, flights, bathing, private facilities, luggage storage and extra travel between accommodation, Kitahama, stations and bus centres.

This subtotal adds the combined hells ticket and listed transport and admission. Day 2’s ¥1,100 Mini day pass is included in ¥12,480. Do not reuse it on another date; it does not replace hell admission. Accommodation, meals, flights and bathing are extra. Omitting the ropeway also removes return buses ¥1,000 and return ropeway ticket ¥1,800.
