Choose Wakayama city for the castle interior or Koyasan for temples. In Shirahama, separate beach walks and cliff views. Visit Nachi Falls by local bus from Kii-Katsuura. Sandanbeki Cave and Nachi’s paid platform require separate admission from viewing the scenery outside.

Wakayama Castle

Visit the castle keep during your Wakayama city day. Allow time to climb from the bus stop to the keep, and separate this from moving to Koyasan or Shirahama.
- AdmissionCastle keep admission costs JPY 410 for adults or JPY 200 for primary and junior high school pupils. The child fee is waived every Saturday.
- Opening hoursThe castle keep opens from 09:00 to 17:30, with admission until 17:00. It closes on 29–31 December, with a temporary cleaning closure on 9 December 2026.
- Getting thereFrom JR Wakayama’s central exit, take a castle-bound Wakayama Bus service, such as route 0 or 25, to Wakayamajo-mae. The roughly 10 minutes is bus travel time; the climb to the keep after alighting is extra. This is a different station from Nankai Wakayamashi.

Kongobuji
Kongobu-ji Temple金剛峯寺
At Kongobuji, see paintings on the rooms’ sliding doors and a garden depicting dragons and clouds in stones and white sand. Interior admission is charged. If staying at temple accommodation, return in time for dinner.

Konpon Daito
根本大塔
Inside Konpon Daito, statues and painted pillars form a mandala setting. Other statues surround the central Dainichi Nyorai, with pillar and wall paintings contributing to this representation. Interior admission costs JPY 500 for junior high school pupils and older; Kondo’s interior is separate.

Shirarahama Beach白良浜
Choose this for a beach walk in Shirahama. This itinerary includes neither paid facilities nor swimming. For swimming, check the open season, lifeguard operations and sea conditions on the day separately.

Sandanbeki
Sandanbeki Cliffs三段壁
At Sandanbeki, see waves meeting the rocky cliffs. Outside sea and cliff views need no admission ticket. For a closer look at waves entering the cave, buy a ticket and take the lift down. The appearance of the waves depends on sea conditions that day.

Nachi Falls

Visit by bus from Kii-Katsuura and view the waterfall from the free ordinary worship area. Nachikatsuura Tourism Organization lists ordinary worship from 07:00 to 16:30. The paid platform is optional; confirm admission times on the day first.

Engetsu Island

View the island with its central hole from the Shirahama coast. Boat activities and island entry are excluded. Check local access and restrictions for your date, and separately check whether sunset through the hole can be seen on your intended day.
- Getting thereAbout 5 minutes on foot from Rinkai stop. The roughly 16-minute bus journey from JR Shirahama does not apply to departures from your hotel. Allow time to walk back to Rinkai and reach the station by bus for your return JR train.

Is the Nachi platform 3 minutes from the bus stop?
The official 3 minutes is the one-way walk from Hiro Shrine reception to the platform. Check the bus-stop-to-reception route separately.
Do I pay cave admission for Sandanbeki cliff views alone?
No. Cliff views are free and the cave is separate. Add ordinary cave admission of JPY 1,500 for junior high school pupils and older if choosing it, with extra time for tickets and lift queues. Do not add cave fees to a cliff-only visit.
