You can visit the keep interior at Wakayama Castle. After leaving the castle-bound bus, walk uphill to the keep; allow time within the grounds too.

How to get to Wakayama Castle

From JR Wakayama’s central exit, take a castle-bound Wakayama Bus service, such as route 0 or 25, and get off at Wakayamajo-mae after about 10 minutes. Allow separate time to climb from the stop to the keep. JR Wakayama and Nankai Wakayamashi are different stations.

The keep closes on 29–31 December, and temporarily for cleaning on 9 December 2026. If visiting before moving to another city, leave time afterwards to return to the station.

Questions about Wakayama Castle

Should I use Wakayama or Wakayamashi Station for the castle?

JR Wakayama and Nankai Wakayamashi are different stations. From JR Wakayama, leave through the central exit and take a castle-bound bus to Wakayamajo-mae. If arriving at Nankai Wakayamashi, check the castle route from that station.
