Admission
General admission is ¥850; high school students and younger enter free. General admission is ¥1,700 during the February 6–28, 2027 orchid exhibition.
Opening hours
The garden opens from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with last admission at 4:30 PM. It closes December 27–January 1 and on additional maintenance days. See the dated closure guidance below.

Tropical Plants From the Greenhouse and Observation Deck
Explore the tropical plants and waterside garden in the greenhouse, then go up to the observation deck. Looking down at the palm leaves gives you a different view of the plants than you get from below.

From JR Kochi Station, take the MY Yu Bus to Makino Shokubutsuen Seimon-mae, then walk to the garden's main entrance. From the airport, take the airport shuttle and transfer to the MY Yu Bus. The airport shuttle does not go to the main entrance. Paths inside the garden include slopes, changes in level, and narrow sections.

The grounds include slopes, changes in level, and narrow sections. If walking distance or steps are a concern, read the official visitor guidance first. To allow plenty of time for both the garden and Katsurahama's coast, visit on separate days.

The garden closes December 27–January 1. Additional maintenance closures are October 26 and November 30, 2026; January 25, May 26, June 30, July 28, August 25, September 29, October 27, and November 24, 2027; and January 26, 2028. Check the official calendar again as your travel date approaches.

Does the Kochi Airport bus go to Makino Botanical Garden's main entrance?
