Admission

No separate admission fee is listed for walking through the village. Visitors arriving by vehicle pay a conservation contribution: ¥1,000 for passenger cars and kei cars, ¥300 for motorcycles, ¥3,000 for medium-sized buses, and ¥5,000 for large buses. The passenger car and kei car charge took effect October 1, 2025. This is not an individual admission fee for bus visitors; bus fares, indoor exhibitions, and meals cost extra.

Opening hours

Village visiting hours are 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. from April through November and 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. from December through March. Enter the parking lot by 4:00 p.m. Visits are closed on December 31 and January 1. Check individual exhibition and restaurant hours separately.

How to get to Suganuma Gassho-zukuri Village · 菅沼合掌造り集落

Board the World Heritage Bus at stop 7 in front of Takaoka Station and get off at Suganuma. Tourism guidance gives about a one-minute walk from the stop to the village. For the return journey, use the stop toward Takaoka. Check the official area map for the village entrance and return boarding location, along with services and unreserved-seat conditions for your travel date. Contact the village if you need a route without stairs.

Using the Gokayama Free Pass

The Gokayama Free Pass costs ¥2,800 for adults and is valid for two days from first use. It covers the World Heritage Bus between Takaoka Station Front or Shin-Takaoka Station and Sasara-kan-mae, excluding Toyama–Takaoka rail travel, lodging, indoor exhibitions, and meals. It cannot be combined with a reserved-seat ticket and does not guarantee a seat.
