Choose a Garden, Historic Streets, or Hot Springs

Walk among Kenrokuen's ponds and trees for a garden visit, or choose Omicho Market for a seafood lunch and a walk through the market. Higashi Chaya's traditional teahouse buildings and Nagamachi's earthen walls and stone paths offer different historic lanes. For hot-spring rest and a riverside walk, stay in Yamanaka and explore a nearby section of Kakusenkei.

Itineraries by Length

First decide whether to stay in Kanazawa or move to Yamanaka Onsen after sightseeing. City itineraries spread out the market, garden, and historic streets; hot-spring itineraries connect trains with inn shuttles. Check the inn's booking plan to see whether meals are included.

2 days, 1 night

Stay one night in Kanazawa for the market and garden, or give Higashi Chaya and Nagamachi a day each. Shorten the second day's sightseeing for an early onward train.

3 days, 2 nights

Stay two nights in Kanazawa to spread out the market, garden, and historic streets. For hot-spring rest too, stay one night each in Kanazawa and Yamanaka. Choose the return-day Higashi Chaya visit around your next departure.

4 days, 3 nights

For the garden, Nagamachi, and hot-spring rest, stay two nights in Kanazawa and one at the hot springs. For an extra day resting at the inn and walking the nearby river, choose one city night and two hot-spring nights.

5 days, 4 nights

Two nights each in Kanazawa and at the hot springs leave a rest day after city sightseeing. For a separate Higashi Chaya day, stay three city nights and one hot-spring night. Connect the last day's return train from the hot springs with your next departure.

Before Traveling or Booking

Check Timetables and Closures for Your Date

Travel between Kanazawa and Kagaonsen Station by IR local train. Choose outward and return services in the official IR timetable for your date, allowing for train arrival and movement between platforms when connecting with your reserved inn shuttle. Reserve Ohanami Kyubei's outward shuttle separately by the day before. Its official guide says to request the return shuttle between check-in and breakfast the following morning. For a two-night stay, confirm the actual checkout day's shuttle and request deadline at check-in. Kenrokuen's hours change from October 16.

Distinguish IR Local Trains from Rail-Pass Coverage

The hot-spring itineraries' rail subtotal uses standard IR local-train tickets between Kanazawa and Kagaonsen: ¥880 one way, or ¥1,760 round trip. The Hokuriku Pass, Hokuriku Arch Pass, and Kansai-Hokuriku Pass permit IR travel only as an exception between Kanazawa and Tsubata when passing through without getting off at other IR stations. That exception does not apply to this itinerary's stop at Kagaonsen. If switching to the Shinkansen, recheck each pass's covered sections and seat conditions, your date's trains, and the inn shuttle connection. Check hot-spring local buses and facility admission separately too. Choose a pass after comparing your departure city and other travel as well.
