Day 2: Yoshida transfer and Yahiko Shrine
Walk past Yahiko Shrine’s torii gates and stone bridge, explore the grounds, then return to your Niigata accommodation. Change trains at Yoshida, and return to Yahiko Station after worship and lunch.

Take the Echigo Line to Yoshida and get off. Check the departure platform for your Yahiko connection in JR’s information for your travel date.
- Yoshida Station → Yahiko-bound platform
Follow the station map’s stairs and connecting passage to the Yahiko-bound platform. The station information lists no elevator or escalator; if stairs are difficult, ask JR about another way to travel.

Take a Yahiko-bound JR Yahiko Line train and get off at Yahiko. If your previous train was delayed, check the next connection.
- Yahiko Station → First shrine torii gate, worship hall and grounds
The official guide gives about 1 km or a 15-minute walk from Yahiko Station to the shrine. Pass the first torii gate, stone bridge, second torii and Zuishinmon, worship in front of the hall and explore the grounds. Meals and visiting time are additional to the walk.
- Yahiko Station → Change at Yoshida, then Niigata Station
After the shrine and village, return to Yahiko Station and take a train to Yoshida. Get off at Yoshida even on a Higashi-Sanjo-bound service. Transfer to a Niigata-bound Echigo Line train. The ropeway, mountain summit and paid treasure hall are excluded from this route.

The Yoshida transfer involves stairs. Leave time to return to the station after the grounds and lunch, and check actual-date return services and fares with JR. Ask the shrine about ordinary grounds worship fees and access hours; plan grounds walks in daylight. The treasure hall, prayer services and ropeway are excluded.
Day 3: Marinepia Nihonkai
See marine life in the Sea of Japan main tank and penguin exhibits. Indoor exhibits are accessible on rainy days.

Take a C22 bus bound for Suizokukan-mae from Niigata Station bus terminal bay 9 and get off at the terminus. The adult fare is ¥260 one way. On departure day, choose your return bus before setting your visit length.

Enter through the front entrance, buy your ticket beside the museum shop, then go to the visitor entrance. Ordinary adult admission is ¥1,500. Normal hours are 09:00–17:00, with ticket sales until 16:30.
- Aquarium visitor entrance → Exhibits, lunch and rest
Explore the Sea of Japan main tank and indoor exhibits, then have lunch and rest. You can continue to the penguin and marine mammal areas. Choose performances from the day’s information; meals and additional activities cost extra.

Walk to the passenger terminal for tickets and boarding procedures. The bus operator advises completing procedures at least 30 minutes before sailing. The ferry operator distinguishes recommended port arrival by ticket method: about 10–20 minutes before sailing for digital boarding tickets, or 30–40 minutes for counter or ticket-machine purchases. Allow more time to suit your purchase method.

Take a Ryotsu-bound car ferry in second class to Sado. The sailing takes about two hours and 30 minutes. Check date-specific fares in the costs below and ferry operator’s information. Port buses, ticket collection, waiting and disembarkation are extra time. The onboard restaurant may not operate; check the day’s information if planning to eat on board.

Go from Ryotsu Port to Guesthouse Zink, an accommodation candidate. The operator estimates about a four-minute walk from the terminal.

Take a gentle walk along Lake Kamo’s edge near Ryotsu Port, then return to the same accommodation. The tourism body’s roughly three-minute walk from the port bus stop to the lake is not a circuit of the whole lake. Rest and explore the port area today; the mine is excluded.
For a stay near Ryotsu Port, consider Zink, about a four-minute walk from the terminal. If booking elsewhere, check the route from the port to that accommodation.
Day 3: Ryotsu Port back to Niigata
Go from your accommodation to Ryotsu Port. To include the mine, consider three nights and four days Course B, with two nights in Ryotsu.

Return from Ryotsu Port on a Niigata-bound car ferry in second class. Beyond the roughly two-hour, 30-minute sailing, allow disembarkation and port bus waits, leaving enough time for departures beyond Niigata Station.

Walk to the regular Niigata Station-bound Sado Kisen stop. Distinguish it from prefectural office-bound stops and temporary event boarding points.

Does the two-night, three-day Sado route include the mine?
No. The route with one night each in Niigata and near Ryotsu Port excludes the mine and island buses. Its ¥7,780 subtotal covers only second-class return car ferry ¥7,260 and Niigata port return buses ¥520. Compare the three-night, four-day route with two Ryotsu nights for the mine.
