  2. Okayama Castle → Tsukimi Bridge and Korakuen

    After the keep, cross Tsukimi Bridge to Korakuen’s south gate ticket office. The official south gate–castle estimate is about five minutes, excluding stairs and ticket queues. Allow half a day for both and lunch. Ordinary combined admission is ¥800 when sold, versus ¥1,000 in separate tickets when unavailable. Garden closing is 18:00 from March 20 to September 30, or 17:00 from October 1 to March 19, with last entry 15 minutes earlier. For late arrivals, decide whether to visit only one before buying the combined ticket.

    Walk about ten minutes from the garden to Shiroshita, then take an Okayama Station-bound tram. Stay in Okayama tonight. Two tram rides totalling ¥320 are included separately from admission.

    Take a westbound JR train that stops at Kurashiki from Okayama. Follow the tourism map from Kurashiki Station’s south exit about 800 m or ten minutes to the quarter entrance, rather than towards the northern shopping mall.

  2. Historical quarter entrance → Historical quarter visit and meal

    Start at the canal and explore Honmachi and Higashimachi’s white-walled streets, allowing two to three hours including lunch and shops. Today focuses on streets, excluding museums, boat rides and activities. Check meal/purchase costs and individual shop opening days separately.

  3. Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter → Okayama accommodation

    Walk back to Kurashiki Station’s south side and take JR to Okayama for your overnight stay. This return basic fare is ¥660. Routes revisiting Kurashiki on another day count that day’s return fare separately.

Day 3: Kibitsujinja Shrine

    Take a Soja-bound Kibi Line (Momotaro Line) train from Okayama to Kibitsu. The shrine’s Japanese access guide estimates about 17 minutes riding and ten minutes walking, plus waiting. Follow the official map to 931 Kibitsu. Opening at 05:00 is not a first-train time; search JR return services separately.

  2. Kibitsujinja Shrine entrance → Shrine visit and meal

    Allow 60–90 minutes for the corridor and grounds worship. This excludes the main sanctuary interior and paid prayers. Choose visiting time to finish worship and return walking before 18:00 closing. On departure day, allow your next train from Okayama.

  3. Kibitsujinja Shrine → Okayama Station and accommodation

    Walk about ten minutes to Kibitsu Station and take an Okayama-bound train. JR basic return fare is ¥420; paid prayers and souvenirs are extra. This route ends at Okayama Station.

Stay two nights near Kurashiki Station: Western art, then sea sunset the next day, then everyday craft exhibits on the final day. The sunset bus allows shorter viewpoint stays than a daytime visit.

    Allow two to three hours for Western paintings in the Main Building, the Craft Art and Asian Art Gallery, and the Kojima Torajiro Memorial Hall. Ordinary combined admission for all three is ¥2,000; re-entry to the same building is generally prohibited. The memorial hall opens 10:00 and closes 16:00 from March to November or 15:00 from December to February, differing from the Main Building’s seasonal admission deadline. Adjust the date if you cannot fit all three. Audio guides, meals and purchases are extra.

    Take JR from Kurashiki to Okayama, then change to a Seto Ohashi Line service stopping at Kojima. Go to bay 5 outside Kojima Station. JR costs ¥1,680 return using separate section tickets for ordinary unreserved/local travel; reserved seats, Green Car and limited expresses are extra. The sunset program operates only Fridays, Saturdays and days before public holidays; check monthly departure times.

  2. Kojima Station bay 5 → Sanbyakuzan and Washuzan circuit

    The sunset program visits Sanbyakuzan and Washuzan viewpoints, then returns to Kojima Station. Allow about 15 minutes at each viewpoint; the fare is ¥540. Follow monthly official departure and return times. No reservation is required, but full buses cannot accept you. Omit the visit if you have no alternative transport. Follow staff guidance for on-site walking.

    After the bus returns to Kojima Station, take JR to Okayama and change for Kurashiki, staying there tonight. Use the official actual-date search to choose trains allowing station access/boarding after the scheduled bus return and the Okayama transfer.

Does the Washuzan sunset bus run every day?

It runs on Fridays, Saturdays and days before public holidays; ask the operator about Obon-period services. The program leaves Kojima Station, visits the viewpoints and returns to the same station. Choose departure and return times from the official monthly table. The fare is JPY 540. Reservations are not required, but you cannot board if the bus is full.

How much transport cost can I remove if I skip the Washuzan sunset from Kurashiki?

The checked subtotal for two nights in Kurashiki with Ohara Museum of Art, the sunset program and the folkcraft museum is JPY 5,420. If you buy none of the Washuzan-trip tickets—JPY 660 for return JR travel between Kurashiki and Okayama, JPY 1,020 between Okayama and Kojima, and JPY 540 for the sunset program—you can remove JPY 2,220, leaving JPY 3,200. This calculation does not include refunds on tickets already bought or a replacement taxi. Departing from Okayama Station on the final day requires an extra JPY 330 one-way JR fare from Kurashiki.
