Itsukushima Shrine
Itsukushima Shrine · 嚴島神社
Itsukushima’s corridors overlook the offshore torii. High tide brings water around shrine and gate; low tide exposes the ground near the torii.

What can I see at Itsukushima Shrine?
Views changing with the tide
The same gate looks different at different water levels. Use the tourism association’s tide guide for a high-water view or a possible low-tide approach.
How to get to Itsukushima Shrine
Take JR Sanyo towards Iwakuni to Miyajimaguchi. Walk about 10 minutes to the terminal, ride JR ferry about 10 minutes, then walk about 15 minutes from island landing to shrine. Walking, ferry waits and crossing need separate time from the train. Shrine viewing proceeds one way.
Before you visit
For a closer approach to the torii
Walking beneath the gate depends on tides and local conditions that day. Even if the ground looks exposed, follow local access instructions.
