Walk Itsukushima Shrine's corridors and look toward the torii gate. At high tide, water surrounds the shrine and gate; as the tide recedes, the ground around the gate becomes visible.

Visit tips
For a closer walk to the torii
Walking beneath the gate depends on the day's tide and on-site conditions. Even if the water appears low, follow posted access guidance.
Ferry fares and Miyajima visitor tax
The JR Miyajima Ferry costs ¥200 one way or ¥400 round trip for adults. The ¥100 visitor tax on entering the island and ¥300 shrine admission are separate. A valid Kansai-Hiroshima or Sanyo-San'in pass covers the JR ferry fare, but the visitor tax remains payable. Do not assume other operators' ferries are covered.
