Which Gifu attractions should you visit?
Choose Jinya for government rooms and stores, the free museum for town history, the float hall for gilding and carvings, the folk village for old houses, or Shirakawago for lived-in village scenery. Gifu Park and Kinkazan offer views; the castle keep and museum remain closed.

Explore Jinya’s rooms and storehouses to learn how the former government office worked: officials’ spaces, family rooms and stores for rice collected as tax. General adult admission JPY 500.
- FeesIndividual adult admission costs JPY 500. Senior high school students and younger visitors enter free; student ID may be requested.
- HoursHours are 08:45–17:00 April–October, with entry until 16:30, and 08:45–16:30 November–March, with entry until 16:00. New Year and bad-weather temporary closures are possible. Remove shoes; bring thick socks in winter.
- DirectionsWalk about ten minutes from the station or bus centre. Combine Nakabashi and the old streets afterwards.

Hida Folk Village
飛騨の里
Explore Hida living spaces in relocated houses. This outdoor museum differs from Shirakawago’s lived-in village and offers gassho roofs on a shorter trip.
- FeesAdmission costs JPY 700 for adults and JPY 200 for primary and junior high school students. Evening-event tickets differ from daytime admission.
- HoursUsual hours are 08:30–17:00, with year-round opening. Autumn 2026 evening events have separate operation on specified dates.
- DirectionsTake the Sarubobo bus towards Hida Folk Village from Takayama Nohi Bus Centre. The ride is about ten minutes, excluding waits and viewing. Return towards the centre. The official leaflet describes direct access after alighting; follow entrance signs to the ticket office, allowing purchase time separately.

Shirakawago Ogimachi gassho village
Shirakawa-go Ogimachi白川郷 荻町合掌造り集落
Walk public paths for village views of large gassho roofs. Residents still live here; view exteriors from public routes. For an interior, pay separately for Wada House’s open first/second floors.
- FeesVillage walks and paid house visits differ. Wada adult admission at JPY 400 is included when selected; other houses, the open-air museum and parking are excluded.
- HoursWada opens 09:00–17:00, with irregular closures requiring date-specific confirmation. Do not enter private homes or fields. Routes below exclude viewpoint transport and winter events.
- DirectionsTake a Shirakawago bus from Takayama Nohi Bus Centre to the terminal, roughly 50 minutes according to the operator. Some services require reservations; check the return too.

Gifu Park and Kinkazan Ropeway
Gifu Park / Mt. Kinka Ropeway岐阜公園・ぎふ金華山ロープウェー
Visit for park walks and mountain-top views. Castle keep and museum are closed; plan exterior/viewpoint visits. Slopes and stairs also occur above.
- FeesThe park is free. Ropeway return fares are JPY 1,300 for adults aged 12 and above or junior high school students and older passengers, and JPY 650 for children aged four through primary school age. Do not add pre-closure castle admission.
- HoursKeep closed from 19 May 2026, museum from 1 April; city plans November 2027 reopening. Ropeway is seasonal, with planned inspection suspensions 1–28 December 2026 and 7 January–16 February 2027.
- DirectionsUse JR Gifu stands 12/13 for Nagarabashi services such as N43 stopping at Gifu Park/Gifu Castle. Check your timetable/stop markers; walk about three minutes to the park. Ropeway ride about four minutes excludes queues. Return on a JR Gifu-bound bus.

Hida Takayama Town Museum

Explore history/culture in 14 former storehouses, covering Takayama Festival, machiya and town development. Admission free.

- HoursThe exhibitions open 09:00–19:00 and the garden 07:00–21:00, with no regular closing days. Check temporary notices.
- DirectionsFollow Chuo-dori straight from the station’s east exit, officially about 20 minutes. Return along the same walking route.

Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall

See actual autumn-festival floats indoors, examining gilding and carvings up close. Adult admission JPY 1,000; displayed floats rotate.

Explore the gassho house’s public first and second floors. Residents still live here; keep out of private areas. Admission for junior high school students and older visitors costs JPY 400.
- FeesAdmission costs JPY 400 for junior high school students and older visitors, and JPY 200 for primary school children, payable in cash. Group visits are not accepted.
- HoursHours are 09:00–17:00, with irregular closures requiring opening confirmation. Only public first- and second-floor sections are accessible; living areas are private.
- DirectionsAbout four minutes on foot from the terminal, address Ogimachi 997. Walking from village parking differs.

Can I see Gifu Castle interiors and Kinkazan views together?
