Where would you spend the extra day during five days in Ibaraki?
Compare separate school and garden days with visiting both first and exploring the museum’s city history and everyday tools on day two. Both itineraries stay four nights in Mito and give the park, falls and aquarium a day each.
Choose a 4 nights, 5 days itinerary
Five days with four Mito nights, including Fukuroda Falls
Stay four nights in Mito for leisurely visits to the school and garden on separate days, alongside a waterfall outing. Give the park, falls and aquarium separate days as well. Stay in Mito after the waterfall rather than connecting directly to a Tokyo-bound limited express.

Visit Kodokan and Kairakuen first, then explore Mito City Museum’s history and folk exhibitions on day two. Give the park, waterfall and aquarium separate days and stay four nights in Mito. Unlike five-day itinerary A, this adds free permanent exhibitions. Choose it only after confirming opening and free history and folk displays for your date. During closures or exhibition changes, compare separate days for Kodokan and Kairakuen instead.

Do five-day transport/admission costs include hotels?
No. Both JPY 17,760 totals are October references for one adult’s Tokyo–Mito return limited express, outing transport and school/garden/park/falls/aquarium admission. Four hotel nights, meals and travel to Tokyo Station are extra. Museum permanent displays are free; special exhibitions are excluded. Kobuntei interiors/extras cost separately.

What differs between the museum and Kodokan?
Kodokan is a historic school. The museum’s 2026 permanent displays cover Mito Tokugawa/Showa city history, food tools and horse-shaped local toys. The museum itinerary visits both sections on day two. Period: 13 June 2026–planned late May 2027; check closures/changes. These displays do not remain indefinitely. Outside the period, during changes or closures, confirm new free displays; if unconfirmed, choose separate school/garden days. Special admission is extra.

Can one Tokyo Wide Pass cover Tokyo–Mito return travel across five days?
Day-one departure and day-five return cannot both fit one three-consecutive-day pass. Using it for the middle three days still leaves the outer Tokyo–Mito limited expresses separate. Park buses, Oarai railway/sightseeing buses, falls return bus and admission are excluded too. Both five-day calculations use ordinary tickets without a pass.
