Kairakuen Garden偕楽園
Walk at leisure among Kairakuen’s bamboo and tall cedars. For plum blossoms, check flowering guidance for your date. Garden admission and Kobuntei interiors require different tickets.
- AdmissionOrdinary adult admission to the main garden costs JPY 320, rising to JPY 500 during the plum festival. Kobuntei costs extra.
- HoursThe main garden opens from 06:00 to 19:00 from mid-February to 30 September, and from 07:00 to 18:00 from 1 October to mid-February.
- Getting thereWalk towards Kodokan from Mito’s north exit to stop 1. Take route 10’s Kairakuen-bound loop to Kobuntei Omotemon Iriguchi, then walk about five to eight minutes to the main garden’s Omotemon. Return from the same stop 1 on the Mito north-exit-bound bus. Distinguish East Gate and Kobuntei’s building entrance.

Kodokan
弘道館
Kodokan was the Mito domain school teaching samurai academic and martial subjects. Explore the historic Seicho and Shizendo buildings. There are level changes indoors and outdoors; check official accessibility guidance first if you need mobility assistance.
- AdmissionAdmission costs JPY 420 for adults and JPY 210 for primary and junior high school pupils and visitors aged 70 and over.
- HoursKodokan opens from 09:00 to 17:00 on 20 February–30 September, and from 09:00 to 16:30 on 1 October–19 February. It closes on 29–31 December.
- Getting thereTurn right after Mito’s ticket gates for the north exit, then follow the deck and Ichozaka. The main gate is closed; enter reception through the side gate on its right. Follow the official photographic route.

Hitachi Seaside Park
国営ひたち海浜公園
Choose Hitachi Seaside Park for leisurely flower-field walks and photos. Explore Miharashi Hill’s flowers and kochia, allowing time to walk from the entrance and take rests. Flowering and red kochia vary with your travel date and weather.
- AdmissionAdmission costs JPY 450 for visitors of high school age and above, rising to JPY 800 on 3 April–6 May and 9 October–3 November 2026. Visitors of junior high school age and younger enter free. Rides and bicycle hire cost extra.
- HoursThe park opens from 09:30 to 17:00 on 1 March–17 July and in September–October. It closes at 18:00 from 18 July to the end of August, and at 16:30 from November to the end of February. It usually closes on Tuesdays, but the official October 2026 calendar lists daily opening. Check other months and years separately.
- Getting thereTake a bus from Katsuta east-exit stop 2 to Seaside Park West Gate (海浜公園西口), about 15 minutes aboard.

Aquaworld Oarai Aquarium
Aqua World Ibaraki Prefectural Oarai Aquariumアクアワールド茨城県大洗水族館
Explore Aquaworld Oarai’s sharks, jellyfish and large fish tanks for marine life up close. Return to Mito after daytime viewing. Night events require separate tickets; daytime admission does not allow staying through them.
- AdmissionAdmission costs JPY 2,300 for adults, JPY 1,100 for primary and junior high school pupils and JPY 400 for preschool children aged three and above.
- HoursOrdinary opening hours are 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:00. The aquarium closes for maintenance on 7–11 December 2026. Busy dates may require admission tickets for a specific date and time.
- Getting thereTake Umimachi Line (うみまちライン) sightseeing route (観光ルート) from Oarai to Aquaworld Oarai (アクアワールド・大洗), then walk about one minute. Ride time about 20 minutes; adult JPY 200 per ride. Other loops do not stop at the aquarium.
- DiningThe food court is scheduled to close 1 November 2026–mid-March 2027. Do not fix food-court lunch into itineraries during this period.

Fukuroda Falls
袋田の滝
See Fukuroda Falls from different heights at the first and second decks. Travel from Mito and back on the Suigun Line; this is a waterfall visit rather than a summit hike. Check station walking, return buses and trains together.
- AdmissionIndividual admission costs JPY 500 for adults and JPY 300 for primary and junior high school pupils. Viewing-facility rates apply from 1 July 2025 and include both decks.
- HoursThe viewing facility opens from 08:00 to 18:00 in May–October, from 08:00 to 17:00 in November and from 09:00 to 17:00 in December–April. Year-round operation is the baseline; check temporary changes on the day.
- Station, bus and entrance connectionsOfficial guidance gives about 40 minutes walking from Fukuroda Station, or ten minutes from Takimoto bus stop. This route walks outward and returns on JPY 260 Fukuroda Station-bound bus from Takimoto stop 1. Enter at the viewing tunnel and take its interior lift to the second deck.
- Dates and connection conditionsMito–Fukuroda one-way JR reference fare was JPY 1,040 in the 8 October 2026 Ekinet search. Connect return buses and Mito trains using actual-date timetables; check the next service after delays. Stay in Mito after the falls day.

Does Hitachi Seaside Park always cost JPY 450?
Adult admission is JPY 800 during designated 2026 seasonal periods. Rides/bicycle hire are extra.
Can I use Oarai’s daytime ticket for night events too?
Leave after daytime visiting and re-enter night events with separate tickets. A day ticket does not allow staying through the night event.
Does Fukuroda Falls still cost JPY 300 for adults?
No. Individual adult admission has been JPY 500 since 1 July 2025, including both decks.
