Kenrokuen Garden兼六園

Walk at your own pace among Kenrokuen’s ponds and trees, following paths between hills and pavilions. From 16 October, the garden closes an hour earlier at 17:00 rather than 18:00.

  • AdmissionGeneral individual admission is JPY 320 for ages 18 and above and JPY 100 for ages 6–17. Check the official visitor guide for free-opening dates and concession eligibility.
  • Seasonal hours and closuresFrom 1 March to 15 October, hours are 07:00–18:00 with last admission at 17:30. From 16 October to the end of February, hours change to 08:00–17:00 with last admission at 16:30. The garden opens year-round; teahouses have separate hours and closing days.
  • Access, bus stop and garden entranceTake the right loop bus from Kanazawa Station east-side stand 7 to Kenrokuen-shita/Kanazawa Castle, then walk about five minutes to Katsurazaka entrance (桂坂口). From Hirosaka/21st Century Museum, the nearer entrance is Mayumizaka (真弓坂口), a different gate. This page’s garden routes use Katsurazaka.

  • Individual shop hours and closing daysThe official tourism guide gives general hours around 09:00–16:00, but shops differ. Check Wednesday and New Year closures. For an evening visit, check the specific shop’s hours first.

Higashi Chaya Districtひがし茶屋街

Higashi Chaya’s lanes of traditional teahouse buildings include machiya cafés and gold-leaf craft shops. Pause for matcha and Japanese sweets during your walk. Interior admission fees and shop hours differ by establishment.

Yamanaka Onsen

山中温泉

Rest at a Yamanaka Onsen hotel after city sightseeing. A two-night stay gives time for a nearby riverside walk and a day at the hotel. Take a train to Kagaonsen Station, then a bus or reserved hotel transfer.

  • Bus from Kagaonsen StationReach this hot spring area by bus from Kagaonsen Station. The tourism association directs visitors to Yamanaka Onsen-bound buses at stand 2. Check travel-date fares and services with the bus operator linked below.
  • Rail fares and direct bus suspensionLocal trains from Kanazawa to Kagaonsen use IR Ishikawa Railway. General adult fares are JPY 880 one way and JPY 1,760 return for that section, excluding Shinkansen fares and hot spring buses. IR’s official ordinary fare table was revised on 14 March 2026; it states there were no fare changes apart from adding Shikibu Station. Check travel-date trains and your hotel’s bus stop separately. The direct Kanazawa bus was suspended after its final service on 31 July 2023; check current operation notices before planning to use a direct bus.
  • One hot spring night or two?The example hotel, Ohanami Kyubei, has check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00. One-night courses return to Kanazawa the morning after arrival-day baths and dinner. Two-night courses leave a middle day for a nearby riverside walk and resting at the hotel. Arrange meal times at check-in. Rooms and meals depend on your booked product; accommodation and meals are separate from course transport/admission subtotals.
  • Reserved transfers or scheduled busesReserve Ohanami Kyubei’s free transfer separately by the previous day. Choose a transfer in the official access guide that connects with your travel-date train. The reference journey time is about 25 minutes; it does not run without reservations. Request the return from check-in until breakfast the next morning; for a two-night stay, arrange the actual check-out date with the hotel. Hotel transfers board from the station’s south-exit hotel boarding area, while scheduled buses use stand 2. Add fares and walking to the hotel if choosing a scheduled bus.

Kakusenkei

Kakusenkei Gorge鶴仙渓

Kakusenkei’s riverside path runs about 1.3 kilometres from Korogi Bridge to Kurotani Bridge. View the gorge from a bridge or walk only the section near your hotel. Riverside tea seating depends on the season and weather.

Kawadoko fees are separate from the riverside walking course subtotal below.
  • Kawadoko hours, closures and suspension conditionsHours are 09:30–16:00 from 1 April to 31 October and 10:00–15:00 in November, with last orders 15 minutes before closing. Closed December–March; November closing days vary. Rain or rising river levels suspend operation. Seats cannot be reserved.
  • Short walks and access to the tea seatingKawadoko is below Ayatori Bridge, about 850 metres from Yamanaka Onsen bus terminal; the official recommended guide gives roughly 15 minutes on foot. Ohanami Kyubei’s local guide gives about 20 minutes to Kawadoko versus seven to Korogi Bridge. The Korogi–Kurotani riverside path is about 1.3 kilometres. The four-/five-day itineraries with two hot spring nights walk a nearby section and retrace it to the hotel. Allow more time to reach Kawadoko or walk the full path.
  • From the hotel to the pathOhanami Kyubei is about seven minutes on foot from Korogi Bridge. Walk a nearby path section from the bridge and return the same way. Allow separate access time if extending to Ayatori Bridge or starting from another hotel. Check stairs and on-site access notices too.
  • What to seeThe riverside path extends about 1.3 kilometres from Korogi Bridge to Kurotani Bridge. Courses with two nights at the hot springs do not walk its full length.

How much does city sightseeing cost including garden admission?

Kenrokuen admission is JPY 320 for one general adult. With two loop bus rides, the total is JPY 760; with three, JPY 980. Garden admission plus the bus day pass is JPY 1,120. Three bus fares total JPY 660 versus the JPY 800 pass, so compare actual rides and covered routes. Accommodation, meals, railway travel, hot spring facilities and individual house admission cost extra.

Which stops serve Higashi Chaya and Nagamachi?

For Higashi Chaya, take the right loop to Hashibacho in front of Kinjohro, then walk about five minutes. For Nagamachi, take the left loop to Korinbo in front of Atrio, then walk about five minutes. Return from Nagamachi using the station-bound right loop stop at Korinbo in front of the former Bank of Japan. Stops sharing the Korinbo name have different loop directions and boarding locations.

Is Kakusenkei’s tea seating open in winter?

Kawadoko closes December–March. Hours are 09:30–16:00 April–October and 10:00–15:00 in November, with last orders 15 minutes before closing. Rain or rising water suspends service, and November closing days vary. General adult seating costs JPY 700 or JPY 1,000 for a dessert set, separate from riverside walking course subtotals.
