Two days in Niigata: where should you go on day two?

Day 1 · Bandai Bridge and riverside walk

Take a short walk at Bandai Bridge and along the river on arrival day, then stay near Niigata Station.

    Walk across the bridge, look at both sides of the river and take a break. Walking has no admission fee; meals and shopping cost extra. Shorten the walk in strong wind or heavy rain.

    Retrace your route towards Bandai City to Niigata Station. The city’s official guide gives about 15 minutes from the riverside to the station, excluding meals, shopping and waits at crossings.

    Head from Niigata Station to your booked hotel and rest. If staying at Hotel Mets, you can use the station’s western connecting passage.

In strong wind or heavy rain, shorten the outdoor walk and head to your booked hotel to rest.

Day 2 · Marinepia Nihonkai

Observe marine life in the Sea of Japan tank and penguin exhibits today. Indoor exhibits can be visited in rain too.

  1. Niigata Station, bus stand 9 → C22 → Suizokukan-mae

    From stand 9 at Niigata Station’s bus terminal, take C22 bound for Suizokukan-mae and alight at the terminus. The adult one-way fare is JPY 260. On departure day, choose your return service before setting the visit duration.

  2. Suizokukan-mae bus stop → Aquarium front entrance and ticket desk

    Enter through the front entrance, buy a ticket at the desk beside the museum shop, then proceed to the visitor entrance. General adult admission is JPY 1,500. Usual hours are 09:00–17:00, with ticket sales until 16:30.

  3. Aquarium exhibits → Meal and rest → Suizokukan-mae stop

    Explore the Sea of Japan tank and indoor exhibits, then have lunch and rest. You can continue to the penguin and marine animal areas. Choose shows from that day’s schedule; meals and additional activities cost extra. After your visit, leave through the exit and return to Suizokukan-mae stop.

  4. Suizokukan-mae bus stop → Board C22 → alight at Niigata Station

    Take a Niigata Station-bound C22 from Suizokukan-mae and alight at the station. Allow for bus waits and the walk to the stop in addition to visiting time.

    Proceed to the ticket gates and platform for your next train. Leave time to walk through the station between the bus arrival and train departure.

If the aquarium is closed, switch to the observation room and market route. If only shows are suspended, focus on exhibits. Check closing days and show times through the facility links in the attraction guide.

Enjoy city views and a market lunch today. After the observation room, walk to the market, then return on a station-bound bus.

    From stand 17 at Niigata Station’s bus terminal, take a Sado Kisen-bound bus via Toki Messe and alight at Toki Messe. The adult one-way fare is JPY 260. Within the terminal, use the second-floor walkway to reach the boarding stand.

  2. Toki Messe bus stop → Bandai-jima Building first floor → direct lift → 31st floor

    Cross the plaza and enter Bandai-jima Building through the Hotel Nikko Niigata and office entrance. On the first floor, take the lift directly to the 31st-floor observation room. Distinguish it from the lifts for hotel and office use. General admission is free; usual hours are 08:00–22:00, with last admission at 21:30. Private hire or events may shorten hours or close the room.

    Look down over the city and riverside, then rest. Visibility depends on the weather; café use costs extra.

Can you use a sightseeing loop bus day pass on C22?

The routes are separate. This aquarium itinerary uses JPY 520 for C22 return travel. If changing to the loop bus, choose its timetable separately and show a valid day pass at the ticket desk to receive the aquarium discount.
