Two nights: stay in the city or on the coast?

Stay near Miyazaki Station for two nights to see the shrine, Aoshima, and museum on separate days. Compare two nights in Aoshima if you want to stay by the sea and drive to Udo and Obi. The city itinerary uses JR and walking; the coastal itinerary stops for views at Horikiri Pass on the final day before returning the car. Check museum closures and Udo access restrictions when choosing visit dates.

Coast and city exhibits from one hotel

Spend two nights at the same hotel near Miyazaki Station. Visit the shrine on day 1, Aoshima on day 2, and the prefectural museum on the last day. Choose this option to keep the southern coast and city sightseeing on separate days.

Day 1

Visit the city shrine on the first day, then return to your hotel near Miyazaki Station.

  1. Miyazaki Station → Miyazaki-Jingu Station

Take a northbound ordinary train from Miyazaki Station that stops at Miyazaki-Jingu. Check the stops and return services for your date. The reference adult fare is ¥200 each way; allow separately for travel from your hotel to the station and waiting time.

  2. Miyazaki-Jingu Station → Shrine visit

Walk about 10 minutes from the station to Miyazaki Shrine. Visit the shrine and leave time to return to the station before its closing time for your date.

  3. Shrine and Miyazaki-Jingu Station → Miyazaki Station and the same hotel

Retrace your walk to Miyazaki-Jingu Station, take a southbound ordinary train, and get off at Miyazaki Station. The reference adult fare is ¥200 each way. Have a meal downtown and return to the same hotel.

JR two-night itinerary A: six one-way segments for the October 9–11, 2026 example

Day 1 costs ¥400 for one adult's ordinary-train round trip between Miyazaki and Miyazaki-Jingu. This is already included in the ¥1,700 subtotal.

Day 2

  1. Same hotel and Miyazaki Station → Minami-Miyazaki and Aoshima stations

Choose a Nichinan Line train from Miyazaki Station that stops at Aoshima, rather than a Miyazaki Airport-bound service. If changing at Minami-Miyazaki, check the connection. Choose the return service before departing and leave time to get off the island before sunset. The reference adult ordinary-train fare is ¥450 each way.

  2. Aoshima Station → Shrine and coastal visit

Walk about 10 minutes, or 800 m, from Aoshima Station and cross Yayoi Bridge to the shrine. Ordinary visits are free, and opening hours are 6:00 a.m. to sunset. Choose how far to walk along the coast according to the tide and weather, and leave the island before sunset.

  3. Shrine and coast → Aoshima Station and Miyazaki Station

After visiting the shrine and coast, cross Yayoi Bridge and walk back to Aoshima Station. Take an ordinary train toward Miyazaki; if it terminates at Minami-Miyazaki, change to a Miyazaki-bound train. The reference adult fare is ¥450 each way; limited express charges are extra.

Distinguish Aoshima round trips requiring a Minami-Miyazaki transfer from direct Miyazaki services. The ¥900 adult round-trip fare is already included in the ¥1,700 subtotal. If choosing a limited express service, recalculate rather than applying this total unchanged.

Day 3

  1. Same hotel and Miyazaki Station → Miyazaki-Jingu Station

Take a northbound ordinary train from Miyazaki Station that stops at Miyazaki-Jingu. Check the stops and return services for your date. The reference adult fare is ¥200 each way; allow separately for travel from your hotel to the station and waiting time.

  2. Miyazaki-Jingu Station → Museum permanent exhibition

Enter the shrine grounds through the torii across the intersection in front of the station, then follow the official walking route of about 11 minutes to the prefectural museum. Check the opening calendar before visiting the natural history, history, and folk-culture permanent exhibits. Shrine visiting hours and museum admission hours are separate.

  3. Museum and Miyazaki-Jingu Station → Miyazaki Station and reserved departure service

After the museum, leave time for the walk back to the station, the train wait, and travel to your reserved departure service. Shorten the museum visit if time is tight. This final day's ¥400 Miyazaki-Jingu round trip is also included in the ¥1,700 JR reference subtotal. Airport transportation and check-in procedures are extra.

Admission and transportation cost scope: JR reference subtotal: ¥1,700 per adult on ordinary trains

Included: One adult: two Miyazaki-Jingu round trips ¥800 + one Aoshima round trip ¥900. Ordinary visits to both shrines and the prefectural museum's permanent exhibition are free.

Extra costs and conditions: Airport or onward travel, any extra transportation to the hotel, luggage storage, lodging, and meals. Check separate prices for limited express services or optional special exhibitions.

The ¥1,700 total consists of two Miyazaki-Jingu round trips at ¥800 combined and one Aoshima round trip at ¥900. The original official JR search on October 9, 2026 checked six one-way ordinary-train fares for one adult. Do not add these three JR round trips again. The amount is a reference from that search; adapt the route order to services on your actual dates. Check access from your hotel to the station, your dates' trains and cancellations, and the final departure service before traveling. Special-exhibition prices vary; distinguish them from the free permanent exhibition.
