Admission

The checked official guidance does not list a separate grassland admission fee. Aso Volcano Museum costs JPY 1,300 for junior high school students and older, JPY 650 for primary school students, JPY 1,100 for ages 65 and older and JPY 350 for preschool children aged four and older. Horse riding, meals and parking cost extra. Regional itinerary subtotals include only buses to the grassland.

Opening hours

For the grassland, check dated access notices rather than assuming fixed opening hours. Volcanic activity, weather and restrictions may change accessible areas. Aso Volcano Museum opens 09:00–17:00, last admission 16:30, and closes for annual inspections on 14 January and 14 July. Horse riding and restaurants have separate operating information.

How to get to Kusasenri

Take the JR Hohi Main Line to Aso Station; trains from Kumamoto may require a Higo-Ozu change. Change at Aso to the Sanko mountain bus and get off at Kusasenri Aso Volcano Museum, then walk to the grassland. Check the stop name so you do not continue to Aso Sanjo Terminal.

Before you visit

Keep your distance from grazing horses

Do not approach, touch or feed grazing horses. For horse riding, follow the separate activity facility's instructions. Before entering the grassland, check same-day access notices, weather and volcanic restrictions.
