Admission

A separate admission fee for Kusasenri's grassland is not listed in the verified official guidance. Aso Volcano Museum costs ¥1,300 for junior high school students and older, ¥650 for elementary school students, ¥1,100 for ages 65 and older, or ¥350 for preschool children age 4 and older. Horseback riding, meals, and parking cost extra. Regional itinerary subtotals include only the bus fare to the grassland.

Opening hours

Check access guidance for your date before assuming fixed grassland hours. Volcanic activity, weather, and access restrictions can change which areas are available. Aso Volcano Museum opens 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with last admission at 4:30 PM, and closes for maintenance January 14 and July 14 each year. Check horseback riding and restaurant hours separately.

How to get to Kusasenri · 草千里ヶ浜

Take the JR Hohi Main Line to Aso Station. Depending on your train from Kumamoto, you may change at Higo-Ozu. At Aso Station, transfer to the Sanko Bus Aso mountain route, get off at Kusasenri Aso Kazan Hakubutsukan-mae, and walk to the grassland. Check the stop name so you do not continue to Aso Sanjo Terminal.

Keep Your Distance From Grazing Horses

Do not approach, touch, or feed grazing horses. Follow the separate activity facility's guidance for horseback riding. Before entering the grassland, check the day's access notices, weather, and volcanic restrictions.
