Jinya and the town museum
Stay one Takayama night for former government rooms and rice storage, then town history and culture displays. Visit Jinya and old streets on day one and the museum the next day. In rain, shorten outdoor walks and give interiors more time.
Jinya and the town museum →2 days / 1 nightHida Folk Village and Jinya
Stay one Takayama night to view old homes and government interiors on separate days. Visit Hida Folk Village first, then Jinya. Choose a first-day arrival allowing daytime viewing and return buses.
Hida Folk Village and Jinya →Jinya and the town museum
Stay one Takayama night for former government rooms and rice storage, then town history and culture displays. Visit Jinya and old streets on day one and the museum the next day. In rain, shorten outdoor walks and give interiors more time.
Day 1: Takayama Station → Jinya → city streets
- Takayama Station → Jinya
Leave Takayama Station around noon, have lunch and walk to Jinya. The official station walk is about 10 minutes. View interiors first, then Nakabashi and city streets. From April to October, last entry is at 4:30 pm and Jinya closes at 5 pm. From November to March, last entry is at 4 pm and Jinya closes at 4:30 pm. Choose arrival transport allowing interior viewing.
- Jinya → Station and hotel
In rain, shorten outdoor walks and focus on Jinya. Eat dinner in town before heading to your station-area hotel.
Jinya interiors require admission and removing shoes. Check your date's last entry and temporary closures, then follow walking guidance towards the old town or station afterwards.
Day 2: east of Takayama Station → town museum → station
View the town museum's free displays on the final day, then return to the station. Check that viewing and lunch fit before your train or bus.
- Takayama Station east side → Takayama Museum of History and Art
From Takayama Station's east exit, follow Chuo-dori to the museum: about 20 minutes in official city guidance. Explore exhibition rooms in 14 old storehouses for the Takayama Festival, machiya townhouses and castle-town history. After Jinya's former government offices, today focuses on town life and culture.
- Town museum exhibition rooms → Exhibition rooms and garden
Exhibition rooms are open from 9 am to 7 pm, and the garden is open from 7 am to 9 pm. Admission is free. There are no regular closure days, but check temporary notices. In rain, shorten street walks and focus on displays. Early garden opening does not give exhibition access before 9 am.
- Takayama Museum of History and Art → Takayama Station and departure preparation
Follow Chuo-dori back towards the east exit after viewing, with lunch in town. The museum-to-station walk is about 20 minutes. Allow viewing, meals and boarding-position access before an afternoon train or bus. Do not add a Shirakawa-go return today. An early-morning departure leaves no museum viewing time.
The town museum is a free exhibition facility separate from Jinya. Check the Chuo-dori route from the station's east side and temporary closures, then choose a departure allowing you to reach the boarding position after sightseeing.
Included: Individual adult Jinya admission costs JPY 500. The town museum is free.
Separate costs and conditions: One Takayama hotel night, meals, luggage storage, travel to and from the prefecture and extra activities cost extra.
These costs use regular adult fares and selected ticket types checked on 8 October 2026. This is not a whole-trip budget including accommodation and meals.
Hida Folk Village and Jinya
Stay one Takayama night to view old homes and government interiors on separate days. Visit Hida Folk Village first, then Jinya. Choose a first-day arrival allowing daytime viewing and return buses.
Day 1: Nohi Bus Center stand 1 → Hida Folk Village → Takayama
- Takayama Station/Nohi Bus Center stand 1 → Hida Folk Village stop and entrance access
At Nohi Bus Center east of the station, check folk-village combined-ticket sales and exchange methods. Take a Sarubobo bus from stand 1 to Hida Folk Village, choosing the return before departure. Follow entrance signs from the stop to the ticket office. Walking and ticket queues are outside bus riding time. Explore relocated houses and outdoor spaces, planning lunch and rest. Check where you can eat on your date.

- Hida Folk Village → Station and hotel
Take a Sarubobo bus from Hida Folk Village towards Takayama Nohi Bus Center. The loop timetable lists the village twice: match village departure and centre arrival rows in the same service column. Check in at your hotel after returning, then dine in town. If arriving too late for daytime viewing and return buses, change the visiting order. For heavy rain or snow disruptions, check operations with the centre and consider postponing. This is a daytime visit; separate evening events are excluded.

Day 2: Takayama Station → Jinya interiors → station
After Hida Folk Village yesterday, view Jinya interiors on the final day. Match the return walk to Takayama Station with your departure.
- Takayama Station → Jinya interiors
After yesterday's village houses, view Jinya's government rooms and rice storehouse. Walk about 10 minutes from Takayama Station for morning viewing after opening. Remove shoes inside; bring thick socks in winter. Today focuses on interiors after the outdoor folk village.
