Four nights in Hiroshima Prefecture: include Miyajima or stay longer in Onomichi?

To visit both Miyajima and Onomichi, stay three nights in Hiroshima and one in Onomichi. For more time in Onomichi, leave out Miyajima and split the stay into two nights in each city. Two nights in Onomichi let you see the hilltop views, Jodoji and cinema museum on separate days. Both itineraries finish at Onomichi Station after sightseeing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take the Shinkansen at Onomichi Station?

Use Shin-Onomichi Station for Shinkansen services. These are different stations, so budget separately for transport, time and fares to Shin-Onomichi after Onomichi sightseeing.

JR Shin-Onomichi Shinkansen and connecting-station information

Does a five-day Kansai-Hiroshima pass cover every journey?

The Kansai-Hiroshima pass lasts five consecutive days from your chosen start date; the Sanyo-San'in pass lasts seven. They cover JR Sanyo Line local trains between Hiroshima and Miyajimaguchi and towards Onomichi, plus the JR Miyajima Ferry during that period. Trams, airport buses, the ropeway, accommodation and admission cost extra. Visiting Miyajima uses the JR ferry; staying longer in Onomichi and skipping the island avoids that ferry fare. Compare ordinary JR fares and your journeys into and out of the prefecture before deciding whether a pass is cheaper for this trip.
