Three days in Okinawa: should day 2 go north?

Choose day-2 Churaumi for whale sharks and manta rays in its large tank, making a northern bus return trip from Naha. For less long-distance bus travel with Ryukyu history/gardens, visit Naha’s museum, castle park and Fukushuen on separate days.

Check before departure that these services operate on your date. The official walk from the stop to the aquarium entrance is roughly 10 minutes. B: Naha history and exhibits

See Okinawa’s nature and history at the museum, then spend separate days walking Shurijo Castle Park and Fukushuen. This suits a relaxed Naha history/garden trip instead of a long northern bus journey. Use Yui Rail and walking.

Day 1: airport → museum → Kencho-mae accommodation

After arrival, explore Okinawa’s nature and history in the museum’s permanent collection. Going directly from the airport requires suitable visit time and luggage storage. Stopping at your Kencho-mae hotel first changes travel sections and costs.

  1. Naha Airport Station → Omoromachi Station, museum main entrance and luggage storage

After immigration and baggage collection, use the second-floor walkway to Naha Airport Station. Take a Tedako-Uranishi-direction train to Omoromachi: ¥320, 19 minutes. Walk 10–15 minutes to the museum and use the main entrance. Large-luggage lockers on the first floor beside this entrance require a ¥100 coin, returned after use. If luggage will not fit or lockers are full, ask the general information desk about alternatives.

  1. Kencho-mae accommodation and station → Shuri Station south exit and Shureimon

Take a Tedako-Uranishi-direction train from Kencho-mae to Shuri: ¥320, 14 minutes. Leave through Shuri’s south exit and follow the official walking route to Shureimon, generally roughly 15 minutes. For Seiden interior reservations, allow 40–50 minutes between station arrival and your slot.

Reduce outdoor visits if strong wind/rain makes castle or garden walking difficult. To switch to the museum, check opening, last entry and Yui Rail operation first. Do not assume indoor facilities operate normally when typhoons stop transport. Skipping or changing attractions changes admission and travel sections.

Day 3: accommodation → Fukushuen → city meal → accommodation → airport

After nature and history at the museum and Shurijo Castle Park, finish with Fukushuen and a city meal. For an early flight, move the garden to an earlier city day or skip it. Kencho-mae–airport riding takes roughly 13 minutes; hotel return and check-in require extra time.

  1. Kencho-mae accommodation → Fukushuen entrance

Leave your Kencho-mae hotel and reach the garden entrance at 2-29-19 Kume on the official access map after 09:00. The walk from Kencho-mae Station is seven minutes; hotel-to-station time is extra. Adult daytime admission is ¥200. Afterwards, return towards Kencho-mae for a meal.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit Churaumi without a rental car on a three-day trip?

Yes, using day 2 for the north. Board northbound YKB at Kencho-kitaguchi in front of Palette Kumoji, get off at Kinen-koen-mae and walk roughly 10 minutes to the aquarium. Return from the Naha-bound YKB stop below the connecting footbridge after crossing from Central Gate.

Choose both services in your date’s official timetable. Yanbaru Express has no seat reservations, and the next bus has no guaranteed seats either. If you miss the last service, check Naha-bound taxis, fares and tolls at Central Gate’s taxi rank. Taxis are excluded from the subtotal.
