Okinawa main-island attractions: where should you go?
See whale sharks and manta rays at Churaumi, or walk among orchids and tropical fruit trees at Tropical Dream Center. Explore Shurijo for Ryukyu history/castle grounds. In Naha, walk Fukushuen or see nature and history exhibits and art at the museum/art museum. Choose market ingredients and a meal at Makishi. Southern Okinawa World offers cave walks and crafts. North and south lie in different directions from Naha; separate visiting days reduce travel strain.

Shurijo Castle Park
首里城公園
Walk past Shureimon through the castle grounds for Ryukyu Kingdom history. Explore free areas or buy paid-area admission. Seiden interior opening depends on your date; timed reservations are needed after reopening.
- AdmissionThrough 21 November 2026: standard adult ¥400, high school ¥300, elementary/junior high ¥160. From 23 November: adult ¥1,000, high school ¥760, elementary/junior high ¥370. Under-six children are free.
- HoursApril–November paid areas: 08:30–19:00, last entry 18:30. December–March: 08:30–18:00, last entry 17:30. Free areas within the castle: 08:00–19:30 and 08:00–18:30 respectively.
- Dates and reservationsAll areas close on 22 November 2026. On 23 November, free castle areas are scheduled to open at 11:15; paid areas/Seiden interior at 12:00. Subsequent interior visits require a ticket including a dated, timed reservation. Unreserved tickets exclude the interior. Same-day reservations depend on availability; choose your slot before visiting.
- Getting thereTake Yui Rail towards Tedako-Uranishi from Kencho-mae to Shuri. Official walking guidance gives roughly 15 minutes to Shureimon, excluding park walking. For Seiden reservations, the operator recommends a slot 40–50 minutes after expected station arrival.

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
沖縄美ら海水族館
Look for the whale shark and manta rays in Churaumi’s large tank. View the Kuroshio Sea tank from the front and explore the space for looking up at fish from below. It is within Ocean Expo Park · 海洋博公園 in northern Motobu, with separate admission. For a Naha bus day trip, plan sightseeing around your return service.
- AdmissionStandard adult ¥2,180; high school ¥1,440; elementary/junior high ¥710; preschool children under six free. School-year categories follow Japan’s April boundary.
- HoursRegular hours 08:30–18:30, last entry 17:30. Official guidance lists no planned closures through 31 March 2027. Check current notices for temporary closures or changes.
- Getting thereTake northbound Yanbaru Express from the Prefectural Office North Entrance stop to Kinen-koen-mae. Official guidance gives roughly 10 minutes on foot to the aquarium entrance. Fares differ between airport departures and Prefectural Office North Entrance departures.
- Extra costsTropical Dream Center and paid sightseeing vehicles cost separately from ordinary aquarium admission. Aquarium admission does not apply across all Ocean Expo Park areas.
- Ways to view the tankSee whale sharks and manta rays in the Kuroshio Sea tank. Besides the front window, the Aqua Room lets you look up at fish from below.

Tropical Dream Center
熱帯ドリームセンター
See orchids up close and walk greenhouses with tropical fruit trees. Allow a relaxed flower/plant visit alongside the aquarium’s marine life. Both are within Ocean Expo Park, but require separate tickets.
- AdmissionHigh school age and older ¥760; junior high age and younger free. Old guidance promising half-price admission with an ordinary aquarium ticket no longer applies. Current half-price guidance is for aquarium annual-pass holders.
- Hours08:30–17:30, last entry 17:00. Closed Wednesdays from 1 July 2026 to 31 March 2027, or the next weekday if Wednesday is a public holiday. The garden can close while the aquarium opens; check its date separately.
- Getting thereGet off at Kinen-koen-mae, enter Central Gate and find Tropical Dream Center on the park map. Check the facility name instead of following only aquarium directions. Allow the walk from the gate separately.
- Greenhouses and facility namesThere are orchid and tropical fruit-tree greenhouses. Official Japanese guidance also uses 美ら島植物園(熱帯ドリームセンター).

Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum

Choose the museum’s permanent collection for Okinawa’s nature and history, or the art museum collection for artworks. Each requires admission. For both on the same day, check the 1DAY pass’s applicability period.
- AdmissionExhibition guidance for 25 September–28 November, checked on 9 October 2026, lists standard adult museum admission ¥530, art collection ¥400 and same-day 1DAY pass ¥750 for both. It does not include all special exhibitions. Recheck exhibitions/prices after this period ends.
- HoursTuesday–Thursday/Sunday: 09:00–18:00, last entry 17:30. Friday/Saturday: 09:00–20:00, last entry 19:30. Closed Mondays or the next weekday when Monday is a public holiday or other exception. Also closed 29 December 2026–3 January 2027.
- Getting thereWalk roughly 10 minutes from Omoromachi, or 15 at a slower pace. A notice dated 8 September 2026 closes the side entrance and rear gate until further notice; use the main entrance.

Fukushuen
福州園
Visit Fukushuen for a relaxed garden walk between Naha shops. It is walkable from Kencho-mae and pairs with city meals. Day/night admission differs; choose a ticket for your visiting time.

Choose your own fish for a market meal. Browse Okinawan ingredients; some first-floor purchases can be cooked at second-floor restaurants. Ask which ingredients qualify and check ingredient/preparation prices before ordering. Browse Kokusai Street before or after eating. Individual market businesses’ hours differ.
- CostsCosts depend on ingredients, menu and preparation. Check ingredient and cooking charges separately before ordering. Route subtotals exclude meals.
- Hours and closuresThe market building is listed as 08:00–22:00; individual businesses differ. Cooking eligible first-floor purchases has last orders at 19:45; second-floor restaurant last orders are 20:00. Closed the fourth Sunday monthly, except December when open daily. Businesses have individual New Year, Lunar New Year and lunar Obon closures.
- Getting thereWalk to the market from Makishi in nine minutes or from Miebashi in 10 minutes. Kencho-mae is near southern Kokusai Street, allowing street browsing while walking from your hotel to the market.
- Eating your chosen ingredientsSome first-floor purchases can be cooked at second-floor restaurants. Ask shops which ingredients qualify. Pay the shop for ingredients and the restaurant separately for cooking; preparation methods change costs.

Okinawa World
おきなわワールド
Walk Gyokusendo Cave and try crafts at Okinawa World. Allow a day in southern Nanjo City · 南城市 for underground scenery and hands-on activities. Regular admission starts with the cave; crafts cost extra. Wheelchair/stroller conditions differ between the cave and other areas. The cave is excluded from the officially listed barrier-free areas.
- AdmissionAges 15+: ¥2,000; ages 4–14: ¥1,000. Crafts cost extra.
- Hours09:00–17:30, last reception 16:00. The operator recommends three to five hours.
- Getting thereFor driving, use the official destination address: 1336 Maekawa, Tamagusuku, Nanjo. The facility’s roughly 30–40-minute Naha Airport estimate may increase with road conditions; it excludes hotel departures and rental pickup.
- ParkingOkinawa’s tourism body lists free parking for 400 vehicles. The data update is 2025-10-21; spaces are not guaranteed that day. Check the parking-to-ticket-desk walk separately. Tourism facility information checked 2026-10-08.
- Bus alternativeTake route 54 Maekawa or 83 Gyokusendo from Naha Bus Terminal to Gyokusendo-mae, then walk two minutes. The four-/five-day B southern visits use rentals or return driver services. To switch to buses, choose both journeys from operator timetables linked on the official access page.
- MealsOfficial guidance says Nantoya soba restaurant has closed until further notice from 13 February 2026. Ask the facility about SANGO’s dated hours if eating there. Check restaurant hours before planning park lunch or dinner after returning to Naha.

Does Shurijo cost ¥400 or ¥1,000?
Standard adult paid-area admission is ¥400 through 21 November 2026 and ¥1,000 from 23 November. All areas close on 22 November. On the 23rd, free castle areas open at 11:15; paid areas/Seiden interior at noon. Choosing two-day A that date requires a flight allowing afternoon sightseeing, hotel luggage collection and airport check-in. Interior visits from 23 November require a reserved date/time ticket; unreserved tickets exclude the interior. Official prices/reservations checked 2026-10-08.

Does an aquarium ticket give half-price Tropical Dream Center entry?
Ordinary, group and externally sold aquarium tickets do not qualify. Current official half-price guidance applies to aquarium annual passes. Standard adults pay a separate ¥760 garden admission. Discount conditions checked 2026-10-08.
Can I visit Makishi Market on Sunday?
