Three days in Osaka: where should you spend the middle day?

Choose a middle day combining castle exhibits and Umeda views, or time at Kaiyukan, with two nights in Namba.

After the castle/viewpoint day, visit Namba Parks Garden on the final day. The aquarium route places castle tower exhibits on the final morning. Skip final-day sightseeing for a morning flight; for other departures, still check enough time remains for airport travel and flight procedures.

Castle exhibits, Umeda views and a departure-day Namba garden

Stay two nights in Namba for history exhibits and high-level views. Instead of the aquarium, combine the castle and Umeda on day 2, then walk the free garden on departure day.

Day 1 · Namba hotel → Dotonbori → Namba hotel

  1. Namba hotel → Dotonbori riverside

After lunch in Namba, walk towards the river. Follow street-level signs from subway Namba towards Ebisubashi and Dotonbori. The tourism bureau's approximately 5-minute walk starts at Midosuji Line Namba Station; the walk from your hotel differs.

  2. Dotonbori riverside → Hotel check-in and dinner

See the riverside and signs in the afternoon, then check in and rest before dinner. The walk itself needs no facility ticket; meals and cruises cost extra. After a late arrival, take only a short evening walk without reducing tomorrow's castle time.

  1. Namba → Tanimachi 4-chome and castle tower visit

After breakfast, take the Midosuji Line north towards Hommachi, then change to the Chuo Line towards Nagata and Ikoma for Tanimachi 4-chome. Walk from Exit 9 through Otemon to the tower. The official station-to-tower walk is about 15–20 minutes; exhibits usually take 50–60 minutes or 90 minutes for a closer look. Allow separately for ticket and entry queues. Consider morning exhibits followed by lunch near the castle. The tower opens 09:00–18:00, with entry until 17:30, and closes 28 December–1 January.

  3. Metro Umeda North Gate → Dedicated Floating Garden entrance

The official walk from Metro Umeda to the observatory is about 9 minutes. Cross the intersection and take the short underpass shown in the official guide. Return to street level, with the Sky Building across the road. The dedicated observatory entrance is outside; avoid the office elevators in Tower East or West and follow the separate entrance signs.
