See historic buildings/city views at Kochi Castle and eat at nearby Hirome. Combine Katsurahama/Ryoma in a day; consider Makino or Ino Paper Museum for garden walks or washi exhibits. Nikobuchi requires about 4 km return walking from the bus stop, with return-service and walking margin.

Kochi Castle

Explore Kochi Castle’s Edo-period keep and Honmaru palace, with city views from the keep. Visit both keep and Kaitokukan for historic interiors. Park walks differ from paid interior admission.
- FeesIndividual keep and Kaitokukan admission costs JPY 500 for ages 18 and over. Under-18s enter free with age proof. Kochi Castle Museum of History and combined tickets are separate.
- HoursThe paid buildings open from 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. They close from 26 December–1 January.
- Getting thereTake a southbound tram from Kochi-Ekimae towards Harimayabashi, then change towards Ino and alight at Kochijo-Mae. Walk through the park to the keep. The final steps mean the tram stop is not the keep entrance.
- What to seeExplore the surviving Edo-period keep and Honmaru palace, and see Kochi city from the keep.

Hirome Market

Choose food across multiple market shops. Walk down towards Obiyamachi after the castle for lunch or dinner here.
- FeesOrder/pay at each shop. Prices differ even within the same market.
- HoursThe market opens from 10:00–23:00 Monday–Saturday and 09:00–23:00 on Sundays. Whole-market and individual-shop hours differ; check the official closure calendar and your chosen shop’s guidance together.
- Getting thereTourism-association guidance gives about 15 minutes from JR Kochi to the market. Ohashidori tram stop is about 2 minutes away per the market, or 3 per the association. These exclude accommodation-specific access and tram waits.

Katsurahama Park

Enjoy Katsurahama’s coast and sea views. For Ryoma exhibits, visit the museum first, then the beach. Swimming is prohibited. Check separate aquarium fees/hours if visiting.
- OperationPark admission is free, access 24 hours, no regular closures. Shops, paid facilities and parking operate separately.
- ParkingOrdinary passenger car: JPY 500 per vehicle per day/entry, revised 1 April 2026. Charged entry 08:30–18:00. Separate per-person facility costs from per-car parking.
- Getting thereJR Kochi → Katsurahama route bus or MY Yu → Katsurahama → park walk. MY Yu goes via Godaisan and differs from the direct route bus.

Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum
高知県立坂本龍馬記念館
Visit the Ryoma museum for his life and late-Edo history, then take MY Yu to Katsurahama. Allow the return to the stop before the next bus.
- FeesAdmission for ages 18 and over costs JPY 900 during special exhibitions or JPY 500 otherwise. Senior high school pupils and younger children enter free. There is no separate lower permanent-only ticket during special exhibitions; check your date’s exhibits.
- HoursThe museum opens from 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. It opens year-round, though some rooms close during exhibition changes. Facility guidance suggests about 90 minutes for the new and main buildings.
- Getting thereAlight at MY Yu’s Ryoma-Kinenkan-Mae and walk uphill. Wheelchair boarding/alighting and slopes differ by direction; ask the facility/operator for official bus guidance.

Nikobuchi

See Nikobuchi’s water colours, known as Niyodo Blue. Light, rain and water conditions change the colour. Do not enter water or eat in the gorge.
- Hours and costsThe path entrance has an environmental-contribution box; the tourism council requests voluntary JPY 100 per person. Distinguish this from mandatory admission. Check path access/crowding notices and local signs before visiting.
- By carOfficial council guidance gives about 70 minutes from Kochi City, excluding waits, parking and gorge walks. Set navigation for Green Park Hodono and look for Nikobuchi parking signs about 5 km before that destination. Five marked parking areas and temporary overflow spaces are described; do not use unsigned roadsides. The new path has slopes/low steps: check access/surface conditions for your date. If mountain driving is unfamiliar, compare the official sightseeing-taxi guidance.
- By busFrom JR Ino, take a bus towards Hodono-Iriguchi or Nagasawa and alight at Hodono-Iriguchi. Walk about 2 km to the gorge, allowing about 30 minutes each way. The adult single bus fare is JPY 1,430. Choose the Ino return first using your date’s weekday or holiday table.

Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden
THE KOCHI PREFECTURAL MAKINO BOTANICAL GARDEN高知県立牧野植物園
Explore tropical plants and a waterside garden in Makino’s greenhouse. Its viewing deck looks down over palm leaves. Give garden walks a different day from Katsurahama; five-day option A separates them.
- FeesNormal admission costs JPY 850. Senior high school pupils and younger children enter free. General admission rises to JPY 1,700 during the orchid exhibition from 6–28 February 2027.
- HoursThe garden opens from 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. It closes from 27 December–1 January, with separate maintenance closures including 26 October and 30 November 2026. Check your visiting-date calendar.
- Getting thereJR Kochi → MY Yu → Makino-Shokubutsuen-Seimon-Mae → main-entrance walk. From the airport, transfer from an airport bus to MY Yu; airport buses do not reach this entrance. Garden paths include slopes, level changes and narrow sections.

Ino Paper Museum
INOTOWN PAPER MUSEUMいの町紙の博物館
See Tosa washi history and papermaking exhibits at Ino Paper Museum. Choose hands-on papermaking separately from viewing. Moving day can fit a visit, but omit it during the planned 16 November 2026–31 March 2027 temporary closure.
- FeesNormal adult viewing admission costs JPY 500. Papermaking costs an extra JPY 500, with reduced admission of JPY 400 for participants, totalling JPY 900. Do not add activity fees for viewing alone.
- HoursThe museum opens from 09:00–17:00. It closes on Mondays, or the following day if Monday is a public holiday, and from 27 December–4 January. Exclude visits from Ino stays during the planned renovation closure from 16 November 2026–31 March 2027.
- Getting thereOfficial guidance gives about 10 minutes walking from JR Ino. Museum entrance and Nikobuchi bus boarding are different places; distinguish their visit order.

Is Ryoma museum admission always JPY 500?
No. Ages 18+ pay JPY 900 during special exhibitions or 500 otherwise. Special-exhibition periods have no separate lower permanent-only fee.
Can I reach Nikobuchi by bus?
From Ino, take a bus towards Hodono-Iriguchi/Nagasawa, alight at Hodono-Iriguchi and walk about 2 km. Walking alone totals about 4 km return; plan gorge time and the return service together. Distinguish operator timetables so weekday-only services are not used as weekend returns.
