Toyama attraction guide
Choose Kansui Park for a walk near Toyama Station, or the art museum for exhibits. Combine Zuiryuji and Amaharashi Coast in Takaoka for temples and sea views. Give a separate day to Murodo for mountains or Suganuma for village walks, starting with return transport checks.

Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design
富山県美術館
The Toyama art museum’s collection includes paintings, posters and chair designs. Consider it if you are curious about everyday design as well as paintings. Displayed works change, so choose exhibitions using the guide for your visit date. General adult collection admission is JPY 350; special exhibitions cost extra.
- Collection fees and effective dateGeneral adult collection admission is JPY 350, applicable from 1 July 2026. Check separate guides for special exhibition fees and free-admission eligibility.
- Museum and rooftop hoursThe museum opens 09:30–18:00, with last admission at 17:30. Check your visit-date calendar for Wednesday, day-after-public-holiday, New Year and other closures and exceptions. Rooftop hours are 08:00–22:00, with last admission at 21:30; listed winter closure is 1 December–15 March. Weather may restrict access too.
- Walk or bus from the stationThe official walk from Toyama Station’s north exit to the museum is about 15 minutes. If going via the park, allow extra time for the park walk. A bus from north-side stand 1 via Toyama Red Cross Hospital and the prefectural art museum also serves the museum stop, with the museum close to the stop. Check fares, travel-date services and an entrance without stairs in the official guide.

Fugan Canal Kansui Park
富岩運河環水公園
Walk by the water and rest without going far from Toyama Station. Enjoy canal and Tenmon Bridge views, or pause by the lawns. The walk from the station’s north exit is about nine minutes, and park walking is free. Observation towers open 09:00–21:30; check separate cruise fares and operating dates.
- Park admission and extra costsPark admission and waterfront walking are free. Cruises, cafés and meals are excluded.
- Park and observation tower hoursThe park itself is always open. Tenmon Bridge observation tower hours of 09:00–21:30 differ from park access. Shorten the walk in strong wind or rain.
- Walk from the north side of Toyama StationThe city tourism association lists about nine minutes on foot from Toyama Station’s north exit. Add hotel-to-station travel, station walking and crossing waits. Return towards the same north exit.

Zuiryuji
Zuiryuji Temple瑞龍寺
At Zuiryuji, see the National Treasure gate, Buddha hall and Dharma hall, together with corridors linking the buildings. Consider it in Takaoka if you are interested in historic Japanese temple architecture. General adult admission is JPY 500; enter at least 30 minutes before closing. Winter closing is earlier.
- Visit feesGeneral adult admission costs JPY 500; junior and senior high school students pay JPY 200, and primary school children pay JPY 100.
- Visiting hours and winter closingOpen 09:00–16:30, with last admission 30 minutes before closing. Closing moves to 16:00 from 10 December to 31 January.
- Walk from the stationListed as about ten minutes on foot from Takaoka Station’s south side, or 15 minutes from Shin-Takaoka. Check which station you arrive at before choosing the route.
Amaharashi Coast
雨晴海岸
Walk or take photographs with views of the sea and rocky islet at Amaharashi Coast. In clear weather and good visibility, Tateyama’s mountain range is visible across the sea, but it is not always visible. Coastal walking is free; the coast is about five minutes on foot from Amaharashi Station. Checking the return Himi Line train helps you decide how long to stay.

- JR Himi Line access and returnTake a Himi-bound JR Himi Line train from Takaoka and alight at Amaharashi. Official tourism guidance lists five minutes on foot to the coast. Return on a Takaoka-bound train.
- Views and the nearby rest facilityWeather may hide the Tateyama mountain range across the sea. Michi-no-Eki Amaharashi is a neighbouring rest facility, separate from the coast itself.
Murodo
室堂
Give Murodo a day for mountain scenery away from the city. The terminal’s rooftop exit leads outside to Murododaira. From Dentetsu-Toyama, change between railway, cable car and highland bus; general adult return transport on the same route costs JPY 10,220. Choose walking sections according to mountain weather and local restrictions, and plan return connections all the way to the local railway.
- Mountain transport return faresThe general adult return fare applicable from 15 April 2026 is JPY 10,220 for Dentetsu-Toyama → Tateyama → Bijodaira → Murodo and back the same way. It includes railway, cable car and highland bus, without crossing to Kurobe Dam or Ogizawa. Special and reserved-seat charges, meals and hotels cost extra.
- Mountain transport season and timetablesThe period below describes mountain transport operation, rather than opening hours for the Murodo area. The operator’s planned 2026 season is 15 April–30 November. Timetables differ by season and between weekdays and weekends. Choose outward and return services, including the local railway, from your date’s timetable. Do not apply this route unchanged outside the season. Check the Snow Wall viewing period and weather-related suspensions separately too.
- Getting to Murodo and returningTake a Tateyama-bound local train from Dentetsu-Toyama to Tateyama, the cable car to Bijodaira, then a highland bus to Murodo. Return Murodo → Bijodaira → Tateyama → Dentetsu-Toyama.
- Ticket collection and transfer timeAllow time to collect tickets and transfer between your outward train and the reserved departure at Tateyama Station.
- Official timetable and fare sourcesThe operator timetables and section fare tables below give date-specific services and return fares.
- WEB ticket reservation timeTo book a WEB ticket, register as a member, then select date, section, one-way or return and departure time. From the Toyama side, the specified time is departure from Tateyama Station, rather than the train from Dentetsu-Toyama. In busy periods, the guide advises arriving 30 minutes before departure and collecting tickets at least 15 minutes before. Check ticketing conditions in the WEB ticket guide below.
- WEB ticket sales conditions for your dateSales periods, deadlines and reservable departures differ by season and product. Choose your date and Tateyama departure section, then check sales and available seats on the official booking site. For dates without sales, read the same-day ticket guide.
- Return connections and seasonal last servicesReturn on the highland bus from Murodo to Bijodaira, cable car to Tateyama and local train to Dentetsu-Toyama. Connections differ by operating season and weekdays or weekends, so check the timetable through the last local train. The final mountain connection alone does not secure your return to Toyama City. November’s final mountain connections are earlier, so choose the return first.
- Explore from the terminal and returnMurodo Terminal’s rooftop exit leads to Murododaira; restaurants and shops are inside. Walk according to local weather and restrictions, then return to the same terminal before your bus. Meals cost extra.

Gokayama Suganuma gassho-style village
Suganuma Gassho-zukuri Village菅沼合掌造り集落
At Suganuma, walk village paths outside gassho-style houses and enjoy mountain village scenery. Residents live here, so do not enter their homes without permission. For indoor exhibits, check each facility’s hours and admission. Travel by World Heritage Bus from Takaoka; bus fares and meals cost extra.
- Village visits and residential spacesThis is a residential village in Nanto City. Distinguish residents’ houses from exhibition buildings open to visitors, and do not enter homes without permission.
- Village visiting hoursOfficial tourism visiting hours are 08:00–17:00 April–November and 09:00–17:00 December–March. Closed 31 December and 1 January. Visit in daylight and avoid visiting after sunset. Check individual exhibition and restaurant hours separately.
- World Heritage Bus and reserved seatsTake the World Heritage Bus from stand 7 in front of Takaoka Station to Suganuma (菅沼). Return from the Takaoka-bound stop. Check village approach and return boarding locations on the official area map. Look up travel-date services, non-reserved-seat conditions and onward trains to Toyama together. The tourism body lists about one minute on foot from Suganuma stop to the village. Ask the village if you need a route without stairs; check the official map for the return stop.
- Vehicle contributions and extra costsConservation contributions are JPY 1,000 for an ordinary car and JPY 300 for a motorcycle. These are not admission fees for bus visitors. Indoor exhibits, meals and bus fares cost extra. Check fares and return buses with the operator, and the village approach from the stop in its official access guide.
- Gokayama two-day pass and reserved seatsThe adult Gokayama pass costs JPY 2,800 and is valid for two days from first use. It covers the World Heritage Bus between Takaoka Station front or Shin-Takaoka and Sasara-kan-mae. It cannot be combined with reserved-seat tickets and does not secure a seat. Toyama–Takaoka trains, hotels, indoor exhibits and meals cost extra.
