Narita Airport → your Tokyo hotel

Narita Airport to Tokyo: Tokyo Station, Ueno and Shinjuku

For a hotel near Tokyo Station, compare the Narita Express (N’EX) with the TYO-NRT bus. For Ueno or Nippori, the Skyliner offers reserved seats without a transfer. N’EX also serves Shibuya and Shinjuku, but you need a train and car bound for those stations.

Check the last leg to your hotel before choosing the cheapest airport ticket. A lower fare may mean another train ride or a longer walk with your bags.

The N’EX Tokyo Round Trip Ticket costs 5,200 yen and is valid for 14 days. It covers one airport-to-city trip and one return trip, not unlimited subway travel. You must present an original passport issued outside Japan; selecting this English page does not establish your eligibility. Official eligibility and coverage ↗

For regular Keisei trains, enter 成田空港 or 空港第2ビル as the starting station in the official route and fare search ↗, then choose your destination and travel date. The route, transfers and fare depend on the train.

The 2,310-yen Skyliner Value Ticket is sold on designated low-cost airline flights and at certain Japanese airport counters. It is not a discount that every passenger can buy at the airport station. Check the eligible sales location, exchange requirements and validity before purchasing.

Where to board in Terminals 1, 2 and 3

Terminal 1: trains on level B1

From the first-floor arrivals hall, follow “Railways / 鉄道” downstairs to Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station · 成田空港駅. Use the JR ticket counter and gates for N’EX, or Keisei’s counter and gates for the Skyliner and regular trains.

Terminal 2: Terminal 2·3 Station on level B1

From the first-floor arrivals hall, go downstairs to Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station · 空港第2ビル駅. JR and Keisei have separate gates. For regular Keisei trains, check whether your ticket uses the Main Line or Narita Sky Access before entering.

Terminal 3: transfer to Terminal 2 for trains

Terminal 3 has no train station. Walk through the connecting passage or take the free terminal shuttle to Terminal 2, then follow the railway signs to B1.

The shuttle ride takes about three minutes, excluding the wait and the walk from the bus stop to the station. The airport’s roughly ten-minute walk estimate is also only a reference; it does not include immigration or baggage claim. Allow longer for elevators and large bags.

Buses: match the destination to the stop number

TYO-NRT buses for Tokyo Station or Ginza use Terminal 1 stop 7, Terminal 2 stop 6, and Terminal 3 stop 5. From Terminals 1 and 2, leave the first-floor arrivals hall; in Terminal 3, follow the bus-stop signs. Terminal 1 directions are right of north exit C1 or left of south exit S1.

Limousine buses for Shinjuku, except services via TCAT, use Terminal 1 stop 11, Terminal 2 stop 16, and Terminal 3 stop 8. Shibuya buses and Shinjuku services via TCAT use 10, 17 and 9, respectively. These are not the TYO-NRT stops. Match your reservation to the counter’s boarding instructions.

From your arrival station to your hotel

Tokyo Station and Ginza: check which side of the station you need

Terminal → JR station on B1 → N’EX → Tokyo Station. N’EX arrives at the Sobu Line platforms on B5. Go up through the B4 concourse and follow signs for your exit. Hotels in Marunouchi · 丸の内 and Yaesu · 八重洲 are on different sides of the station; choosing the wrong exit means crossing back with your bags.

JR’s station floor plan ↗ shows the elevators and exits. TYO-NRT drops you near the Nihombashi Exit · 日本橋口, not at the Yaesu South stop used by buses departing for the airport.

For Ginza, choose a bus that actually serves Ginza or plan the onward train or taxi. If your hotel is near Higashi-ginza Station · 東銀座駅, compare an Access Express service that runs through to that station.

Marunouchi Central Exit → Marunouchi Building · 丸ビル walking directions ↗

This example ends at Marunouchi Building, not your hotel. Replace the destination with your hotel address to check the final crossing and entrance.

Ueno: the Skyliner arrives at Keisei Ueno

Terminal → Keisei ticket counter or exchange → Skyliner → Keisei Ueno Station · 京成上野駅 → hotel. Keisei Ueno and JR Ueno do not share the same ticket gates. If you plan to visit Ameyoko · アメ横 or Ueno Park · 上野公園, dropping your bags at your hotel first can make the walk easier.

Keisei Ueno → Ameyoko walking directions ↗

Shinjuku: west exit, south exit and Kabukicho are different destinations

Terminal → JR station → N’EX serving Shinjuku → Shinjuku Station → hotel. N’EX can join cars with different destinations, so board the car printed on your reserved-seat ticket. With a limousine bus, choose your west-exit, Busta or hotel stop when reserving.

Shinjuku Station West Exit · 西口 and Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal · バスタ新宿 are not the same drop-off point. For a hotel in Kabukicho · 歌舞伎町, check the separate route to Tokyu Kabukicho Tower · 東急歌舞伎町タワー. The west-exit last-departure times below do not apply to that route.

Shinjuku West Exit → Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building · 東京都庁 walking directions ↗

Shibuya: match your hotel to the rail exit or bus stop

Terminal → JR station → N’EX serving Shibuya → Shibuya Station → hotel. Shibuya Scramble Square · 渋谷スクランブルスクエア connects to the station and subway exit B6. After leaving a JR train, follow signs to the building rather than assuming B6 is beside your platform.

Limousine buses have distinct stops at Shibuya Fukuras · 渋谷フクラス, Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel · セルリアンタワー東急ホテル and Shibuya Mark City · 渋谷マークシティ. Choose the stop closest to your hotel, taking hills and crossings into account.

Shibuya Station → Scramble Square walking directions ↗

These walking links use a real map service, but the example destination may not be your hotel. Enter your hotel address and check the final approach; construction, elevator access, crossings and hotel entrances can change the route.

Last departures and late arrivals

Your flight’s landing time is not the time you can board a train or bus. Allow for immigration, baggage claim, the trip to the boarding point and ticket purchase before comparing last departures.

These are departures from the airport, checked on 2026-10-04, not city-to-airport services. Check the operator’s timetable for your travel date and whether seats remain available.

The October weekend and holiday N’EX timetable ↗ shows the same final departures. The last N’EX reaches Tokyo Station at 22:37–22:38, with Shinjuku-bound cars reaching Shibuya at 23:06 and Shinjuku at 23:12. The last Skyliner reaches Nippori at 23:43 and Keisei Ueno at 23:48. Check any onward city train separately. Regular Keisei services have their own destination- and transfer-specific last departures.

The late-night TYO-NRT fare is 3,000 yen, payable on board with cash or a transportation IC card, not a credit card. The final service is scheduled to reach Tokyo Station at 00:38 the next day. Do not assume that city trains to Shinjuku or Shibuya will still be running.

If a flight delay makes you miss your reservation

  • N’EX: Check changes and cancellations before departure. JR’s general guidance allows a passenger who misses the reserved train to use an unoccupied ordinary-class seat on a later train that day, but it does not guarantee a new reservation. Give up the seat if its reserved passenger arrives. Discount tickets and third-party vouchers can have different conditions.
  • Skyliner: Regular liner tickets allow one free change before departure, subject to seat availability. Voucher refund and date-change terms can differ. Contact the seller before exchange, or the Keisei counter after exchange.
  • Limousine Bus: The official web booking service’s change deadline of five minutes before departure is separate from a voucher seller’s cancellation and activation rules. Check your booking before departure; a seat on the next bus is not guaranteed.
  • TYO-NRT: Advance reservations are not currently offered. Buy a ticket for a specific departure at the airport. A limousine-bus voucher is not valid on this service.

Large bags, missed connections and airport taxis

TYO-NRT generally accepts one checked suitcase per person. Regular trains do not reserve seats or suitcase space. If you have several large bags, compare the specific train or bus baggage allowance before buying. N’EX luggage racks are first come, first served and cannot be reserved separately.

If the remaining services do not reach your hotel, compare the airport’s official taxi stand, a pre-booked pickup or a hotel near the airport. Taxi totals depend on the destination, tolls and late-night surcharges; show the driver your hotel address and ask about the estimated total.

Tell your hotel about the delay and expected check-in time. If you plan to stay at the airport overnight, check the terminal’s opening hours and permitted areas first. For a booked pickup, confirm the vehicle and destination at the official meeting point or a staffed counter.

Official tickets and reservations

Buy the ticket for your destination: N’EX for Tokyo Station or a train serving Shinjuku and Shibuya; Skyliner for Nippori or Keisei Ueno; TYO-NRT for the bus route shown on the ticket. N’EX requires both a basic-fare ticket and a reserved-seat limited-express ticket. The 5,200-yen N’EX round-trip ticket is valid for 14 days and requires an original passport issued outside Japan.

Traveling from Narita Airport to Tokyo, Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station?

Take N’EX for a direct rail trip, or compare the lower-cost TYO-NRT bus. The adult one-way ordinary-class N’EX fare is 3,140 yen. TYO-NRT costs 1,500 yen on regular services or 3,000 yen late at night and drops passengers near Tokyo Station’s Nihombashi Exit.

Should I take the Skyliner to Ueno or Nippori?

The Skyliner serves both Nippori and Keisei Ueno with reserved seats. Its regular one-way fare is 2,580 yen, including the basic fare and liner ticket. The shortest journey from Terminal 2·3 Station to Nippori is 36 minutes. Regular Keisei Main Line trains cost less but do not offer reserved seats.

Can I get directly to Shinjuku or Shibuya from Narita?

Choose an N’EX train and car that serves your station; the adult one-way ordinary-class fare is 3,330 yen. Limousine buses also serve the area, but drop-off stops and last departures vary by station or hotel. Match the stop to your hotel address.

Where do I board a train if I arrive at Terminal 3?

Terminal 3 has no railway station. Walk through the connecting passage or take the free shuttle to Terminal 2, then go to Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station on B1. The roughly three-minute shuttle ride excludes waiting and the walk to the station.

When is the last departure from Narita Airport to Tokyo?

The October 4, 2026 source check showed the last N’EX at 21:44 from Terminal 1 and 21:47 from Terminal 2, and the last Skyliner at 23:00 and 23:03. The last TYO-NRT for Tokyo Station departs Terminal 3 at 23:20, Terminal 2 at 23:25 and Terminal 1 at 23:30. Check your destination, date and onward connections separately, allowing time after landing for immigration and bags.

Can I change my ticket for free if my flight is delayed?

Not every ticket allows a free change. JR’s general N’EX guidance allows use of an unoccupied ordinary-class seat on a later train that day after missing a reserved train, but does not guarantee another reserved seat. Skyliner tickets, vouchers and limousine bookings have different terms. Check with the seller or counter before the booked departure.

Is the 1,500-yen TYO-NRT bus the same as a limousine-bus ticket?

No. TYO-NRT and Limousine Bus are separate services with different stops, prices and ticket conditions. The purchase section links to official operator information, not an affiliate limousine-bus offer. Buy the ticket for the correct operator, airport departure and destination.
