Arrival at Narita → Tokyo accommodation

Narita Airport to Tokyo: Tokyo Station, Ueno and Shinjuku

For hotels near Tokyo Station, compare the Narita Express (N’EX) with an airport bus. For Ueno or Nippori, the Skyliner serves the arrival stations shown below. For Shinjuku or Shibuya, compare a N’EX service stopping at your station with a bus that drops you near your hotel.

Include the final journey from the arrival station or bus stop to your hotel. A cheaper airport ticket may mean an extra transfer or a longer walk with luggage.

The last bus’s arrival at Tokyo Station is listed as 00:38 the next day. At this time, do not assume that you can reach Shinjuku and Shibuya by train.

When you miss your reserved train or bus because your flight is delayed

  • N’EX: For general reservations, check the change/cancellation conditions first before departure. Official JR information explains that if you miss your reserved train, you can use an empty ordinary-class seat on a later train the same day, but it doesn't guarantee a new reserved seat. You must move out of the way when the person who has reserved the seat comes. Please also check the ticketing conditions for tickets and discount tickets from third-party sellers.
  • Skyliner: Regular liner tickets have a one-time free change policy prior to departure and subject to empty seats. Third-party exchange vouchers may have different refund and date-change conditions. Check the terms of the voucher you actually bought rather than applying ordinary-ticket rules. Check with the seller before exchanging, or at the Keisei counter if after exchanging.
  • Limousine: The change notification 5 minutes before departure on the official reservation web and the cancellation/activation conditions for a third-party exchange voucher are separate. Distinguish between cancelling a purchase and changing a bus you have already booked, and if delays are expected, inquire on the voucher reservation screen before departure. We do not automatically guarantee you will be able to get on the next service.
  • TYO-NRT: This is a method of purchasing timed tickets at the airport without currently requiring advance reservations. Online limousine vouchers cannot be used on this bus.

If you have a lot of luggage or arrive late alone

TYO-NRT’s checked baggage is limited to one suitcase per person. You cannot reserve seats and suitcase space on regular trains, so if you have several large pieces of luggage, compare the baggage allowances for reserved seat trains or buses. N’EX luggage space is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so it cannot be reserved separately.

If you have no transportation remaining or cannot reach your accommodation before its check-in deadline, compare official airport taxi stands, pre-booked pickups, and hotels near the airport. Taxi fares vary depending on destination, tolls, and late-night surcharges.

Provide your accommodation address and confirm the estimated total amount. If you plan to spend the night at the airport, you should first check the opening area and operating information for the terminal you are using. Please inform the property of any delays and expected check-in time.

If it is late, check the reserved vehicle and destination at the official boarding area and the staffed counter. It is better to save the walking route after getting off and choose a way to get to the front of the accommodation if it is difficult to walk a long section with luggage.

Official tickets and reservations

Buy the ticket for your destination: N’EX for Tokyo Station or a train serving Shinjuku and Shibuya; Skyliner for Nippori or Keisei Ueno; TYO-NRT for the bus route shown on the ticket. N’EX requires both a basic-fare ticket and a reserved-seat limited-express ticket. The 5,200-yen N’EX return ticket is valid for 14 days and requires an original passport issued outside Japan.

Travelling from Narita Airport to Tokyo, Frequently asked questions

What can I take to get from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station?

Compare N’EX to go by rail without transferring, or TYO-NRT to reduce costs by bus. Adult one-way ordinary class N’EX is 3,140 yen, and regular TYO-NRT bus is 1,500 yen. The bus arrives at the Nihonbashi exit of Tokyo Station, and the late-night bus costs 3,000 yen.

Is the Skyliner good for going from Narita to Ueno and Nippori?

If you get off directly at Ueno or Nippori and need reserved seats, the Skyliner is the way to go. A regular one-way ticket costs 2,580 yen and takes as little as 36 minutes from Terminal 2 or 3 Station to Nippori. If you want to save money, you can also compare the regular limited express on the Keisei Main Line, but there are no seat reservations.

Can I go directly from Narita to Shinjuku and Shibuya?

If you choose N’EX that stops at that station, you can get there without transferring. Adult one-way ordinary class fare is 3,330 yen. There are also limousine buses, but the drop-off stop and last bus are different for each station or hotel, so choose one based on your accommodation address.

Where can I board the Skyliner or N’EX in Terminal 3?

There is no rail station in Terminal 3. Go to Terminal 2 by connecting passage or free shuttle, and then go to Airport Terminal 2 Station on the basement level. Station signs indicating terminals 2 and 3 mean that both terminals use the same station. Waiting and walking time are added to the approximately 3-minute shuttle ride.

What time are the last departures from Narita Airport towards Tokyo?

As of confirmation on October 4, 2026, N’EX is Terminal 1 at 21:44 and Terminal 2 at 21:47, and Skyliner is at 23:00 and 23:03. The last TYO-NRT bus to Tokyo Station is Terminal 3 at 23:20, Terminal 2 at 23:25, and Terminal 1 at 23:30. Since it varies depending on the destination, operation date, and connecting flight, please judge based on the time you reach the boarding point after immigration and baggage collection, not the aircraft landing time.

If my flight is delayed and I miss my reserved transportation, can I change it for free?

Not all tickets can be changed for free. JR East's general N'EX reservation information provides for the use of empty ordinary-class seats on later trains the same day, but does not guarantee a new reserved seat. Conditions for Skyliner exchange tickets and limousine bus exchange tickets vary depending on the seller and activation status, so please inquire at the reservation screen or ticket counter before departure.

Are TYO-NRT and the airport limousine bus the same ticket?

No. TYO-NRT is the 1,500-yen regular bus service to Tokyo Station, while airport limousine buses have their own destinations, fares and booking rules. Buy a ticket for the correct operator, departure airport and arrival stop. The purchase section links to official operator information; it does not present an unverified affiliate product.
