A return ticket, not an unlimited rail pass

Compare this product if you will use Narita Express both after arrival and before departure, with both journeys within 14 days. For a one-way journey or a flight home from a different airport, compare other tickets instead.

Your first leg must run from Narita Airport towards the Tokyo area, and the second must return to the airport. You cannot reverse this order. The city stations may differ between the two legs if both are within the covered area.

Travelling on 6–8 November 2026

Tunnel works affect some Narita Express services from the evening of 6 November through the morning of 8 November 2026. Affected trains start or end at Tokyo Station rather than continuing to Shinjuku or Ofuna. Narita Airport–Tokyo services are not all cancelled. Check your train number in JR East’s dated notice before booking a direct journey beyond Tokyo.

On 7 November, the Yokosuka/Sobu Rapid service between Tokyo and Shinagawa is suspended all day. Do not assume your usual onward train or a free transfer to another railway will be available; consult the operator’s notice and the timetable for your travel date.

Passport eligibility

A non-Japanese passport is required, including for foreign nationals who hold a Japanese residence visa, as allowed by the official FAQ. Bring the traveller’s original passport when collecting the ticket. Choosing the Australian English page does not establish eligibility.

Official fare and children

The official price is JPY 5,200 for adults aged 12 or over and JPY 2,600 for children aged 6–11. This buys one outward leg and one return leg, not 14 days of unlimited travel.

A child aged five or under travelling on your lap does not need this ticket. Buy a child ticket if they will occupy their own seat.

JR transfers and exiting the gates

Before exiting the gates, you can transfer between Narita Express and other covered JR East services as part of that leg. Once you leave the gates, the leg ends. On the return journey, start at a station in the covered area and transfer to Narita Express without exiting the gates.

You may arrive at one covered city station and begin the return at another. Confirm both stations on the official area map rather than assuming every Tokyo-area railway is included.

Where and when to collect the ticket

Collect at Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station or Narita Airport Terminal 2・3 Station. The listed options are JR East Travel Service Centers, JR ticket offices (Midori-no-madoguchi) and reserved-seat ticket machines with passport readers.

Source: JR East official conditions and FAQ — N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket

The official page lists the Terminal 1 service centre as 08:30–19:00 and Terminal 2・3 as 08:30–20:00. At both stations, the listed ticket office and passport-reader machine hours are 06:30–21:45. These are collection facility hours, not train departure times. Recheck the linked official information if your arrival is close to closing.

Allow for immigration, luggage collection and the walk to the station before deciding when you can collect and board. An aircraft landing time is not the time you reach the JR counter.

Ordinary Car seats and online purchase

Narita Express Ordinary Car reserved seats are included. Reserve the service you will board and check its carriage and seat number.

For a direct JR-EAST Train Reservation online purchase, each traveller must use their own account and purchase their own ticket. You cannot apply that individual-account procedure to every third-party seller.

Source: JR East official conditions and FAQ — N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket

Green Car travel is not covered by paying only the difference between Ordinary and Green fares. The full Green Car and reserved-seat limited express charges are additional; the return ticket applies only to the covered base fare in that case.

If you miss the reserved train

The official rules allow an empty Ordinary Car seat on a later train the same day after missing the reserved service. If a passenger with a reservation for that seat arrives, give up the seat. This is not a guaranteed replacement seat reservation.

Cancellation and refunds by purchase channel

For direct official online reservations, cancellation by 23:50 on the day before use receives a full refund and cancels the associated reserved seats. After collecting the physical ticket, online cancellation is no longer available.

Source: JR East official conditions and FAQ — N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket

For a refund after collection, the traveller must visit a station counter with the card used to buy the ticket. A different card cannot be used for the refund. These direct-JR online conditions are not a promise of the same cancellation deadline or charges from a third-party seller.
