Three days in Kobe: Himeji Castle or Arima?
Choose a middle day at Himeji Castle and Koko-en or bathing at Arima's Kin no Yu. Stay two nights in Sannomiya and take either as a day trip.
Himeji uses a JR round trip; Arima requires subway and Kobe Electric Railway transfers. Both rail routes are separate from City Loop tickets for Kobe's harbor.

Kobe Harbor, Himeji Castle, and Koko-en
Spend two nights at the same Sannomiya hotel, giving the harbor and Himeji Castle with Koko-en separate days. On the last day, explore more of the harbor before departing from Shin-Kobe.

Day 1: Meriken Park and the Harbor
Spend two nights in Sannomiya, starting with a park and harbor walk. Visit Himeji Castle and Koko-en together tomorrow.
- Sannomiya hotel and southbound stop 13 → Meriken Park stop 16
Take City Loop from southbound stop 13 in front of Sannomiya Subway Station to Meriken Park stop 16. Distinguish northbound stop 8. Walk past Port Tower's exterior and the park waterfront. Paid tower admission is excluded from this course. Skip the walk if on-site restrictions prevent waterfront access.

Day 2 morning: JR to Himeji Castle
Give Himeji Castle the morning, then eat lunch outside before Koko-en. Search Sannomiya–Himeji trains separately in both directions for your date.
- JR Sannomiya → JR Himeji
From JR Sannomiya, take a Special Rapid toward Himeji, Aboshi, or Banshu-Ako and get off at Himeji. Official guidance gives about 40 minutes on the train; station access and waiting are extra. Search your actual dates and choose both morning arrival and return services.
Official JR timetable and fare search: enter travel dateHimeji Castle fees, hours, and station access
- JR Himeji north exit → Himeji Castle
Leave Himeji Station through the north exit and walk toward the castle. Official guidance gives about 20 minutes from station to castle; ticket queues and movement inside the paid area are extra. Look for a lunch option between station and castle, then enter the castle in the morning.
- Himeji Castle → Keep viewing and lunch outside
Use the official FAQ's roughly 90–120-minute visit estimate, with a possible additional hour of waiting when busy. Remove your shoes inside the keep and climb steep stairs; there is no elevator. Carry minimal luggage. If stairs are difficult, do not commit to an itinerary dependent on entering the keep. Start in the morning rather than arriving near the 4:00 PM admission cutoff. Check same-day ticket validity and no re-entry, then eat lunch outside after your visit.

- Outside Himeji Castle → Separate Koko-en entrance and garden visit
Visit Koko-en in the afternoon before returning to Kobe. After leaving the castle, find Koko-en's entrance west of the castle on the official access map. Look for the gate within enclosing walls; it differs from the castle's paid-area entrance. Allow the separate walk from castle to garden. Regular garden hours are 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with admission until 4:30 PM; check event-day operations separately. This day's costs use a combined ticket for both castle and garden.
- Koko-en → JR Himeji and Sannomiya
Koko-en's official roughly 15-minute walk describes the direction from JR Himeji to the garden. For the return, check your route from the actual exit at your walking pace, and allow station access and train waits. Take an Osaka/Kyoto-bound train from JR Himeji and get off at Sannomiya. If the castle visit runs late, shorten your garden stay or check a later return service.

Day 3 morning: Harborland and departure preparations
After Harborland's waterfront, return to Sannomiya and depart from Shin-Kobe. Shorten the visit if the harbor walk and final transfer leave too little time.
- Sannomiya hotel → Kamomeria and a Harborland walk
Take City Loop from southbound stop 13 in front of Sannomiya Subway Station to Kamomeria stop 0. Distinguish Port Loop, then board the next City Loop bus to Harborland stop 1. You change buses at Kamomeria, and each boarding has a separate fare.

Distinguish this station from Sannomiya-Hanadokeimae on the Kaigan Line. Allow platform access and waiting time beyond the roughly two-minute ride. At Shin-Kobe, follow JR Shinkansen signs to the second-floor gates and third-floor platforms. Platform 2 serves Shin-Osaka and Tokyo; platform 1 serves Okayama and Kyushu. Beyond JR's standard 10-minute transfer, allow ticket collection, elevator waits, and walking with luggage. Shorten or skip your final visit if reaching your booked train would be difficult. An airport departure needs separate terminal travel and flight check-in time.

Included: Combined Himeji Castle–Koko-en ticket, JR round trip, and the five City Loop rides specified
Separate costs and conditions: Final-day subway, Shinkansen, airport travel, lodging, meals, luggage storage, and tower admission are excluded.
The JR round trip costs ¥1,920; five City Loop rides cost ¥1,500. Verified costs: regular adult castle/garden combined ticket ¥2,600 + JR one-way fare ¥960 × 2 = ¥4,520. This route's two day-one bus rides and three day-three rides cost ¥300 × 5 = ¥1,500, giving ¥6,020 overall. The Himeji day lies between them, so do not use one City Loop two-day pass for days one and three. Separate one-day passes for those two days cost ¥1,600, ¥100 more than the five single fares.

Go through the ground-floor counter to your reserved observation floor or rooftop. The rooftop is accessible only by stairs from the fifth observation floor. It may open in rain, but umbrellas are prohibited. Rain or strong wind can close it without notice, so check visit-date operating notices. After viewing, walk Meriken Park's waterfront and continue to Kamomeria. Skip the walk if waterfront access is restricted.

- Sannomiya subway station → Tanigami
From Sannomiya Subway Station's B2 platform 1, take a Tanigami-bound train. A train terminating at Shin-Kobe does not reach Tanigami, so check the destination. Allow platform access and waiting beyond the roughly 10-minute ride. After sightseeing today, return to the same Sannomiya hotel.

The roughly five-minute walk from Kobe Electric Railway's Arima-Onsen Station to Kin no Yu comes from the facility's official 2023 brochure. The ropeway's Arima Onsen Station is a different starting point; do not apply the same five-minute estimate. Eat lunch in town before bathing, or bathe first and eat afterward. Regular hours are 8:00 AM–10:00 PM, with reception until 9:30 PM. Finish bathing early in the afternoon to fit your return train to Kobe. Crowding may restrict entry. Bring a towel or check whether one is sold on site. Kin no Yu admission excludes ryokan lodging and meals.

Add rooftop-inclusive tower admission ¥1,200 and five City Loop rides on nonconsecutive days one and three, ¥1,500, for ¥4,790/¥4,940. Observation-floor-only admission reduces this by ¥200. Frequently asked questions
Can I reach Arima with a Kobe city bus pass?
The subway and Kobe Electric Railway journey to Arima is not covered by City Loop tickets. A regular adult one-way journey via Tanigami costs ¥720; calculate it separately from a City Loop pass.
City Loop fares, passes, and sales locationsKobe Electric Railway official regular-fare search
Can I use the same two-day bus pass on days one and three?
A two-day pass covers consecutive days. The three-day Himeji Castle/Koko-en course uses City Loop on days one and three, so one pass does not cover both. The calculation uses five single rides totaling ¥1,500.
Do I visit only the castle before returning from Himeji?
After Himeji Castle's keep, eat lunch outside and enter Koko-en through its separate entrance. Split time between castle and garden, then return to JR Himeji and take a Sannomiya-bound train.
