Temples, Gardens, or Art Museums: Where Will You Spend Your Time?
Choose Nippon Maru for harbor views and a visit inside the ship, or Sankeien for historic buildings and garden paths. Visit temples and the Great Buddha in Kamakura’s Hase area, or Enoshima for views over the sea. For walks among sculptures, head to Hakone’s museum on the mountain railway farther up from Yumoto. Yumoto’s baths and hotels each have their own prices and conditions.

Sankeien Garden
三溪園
Explore historic buildings and walk through a Japanese garden at Sankeien. It is a bus ride from Yokohama’s harbor waterfront, rather than a place you can walk straight into from the harbor. Schedule it for a separate half day from your waterfront walk to leave time inside the garden.
- AdmissionAdmission costs ¥900 for high school students and older and ¥200 for elementary and junior high school students.
- HoursHours are 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with last admission at 4:30 p.m. The garden closes December 26–31. Hours may change for events.
- Getting ThereAt bus stop 2 in Yokohama Station’s east exit bus terminal, check municipal routes 8 and 168 for a service stopping at Sankeien Iriguchi (三溪園入口). After getting off, walk about 5 minutes. Follow on-site guidance for temporary boarding-point changes.

Kotoku-in and the Great Buddha of Kamakura
Kotoku-in高徳院
See the Great Buddha of Kamakura up close at Kotoku-in. Visiting the Buddha from outside and entering its interior have separate fees. If you also want to visit Hasedera, you can combine the two temples in the same half day.
- AdmissionRegular admission is ¥300; ages 6–12 pay ¥150. Entry inside the Great Buddha costs an additional ¥50.
- HoursThe grounds open 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. April–September and 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. October–March. Last admission is 15 minutes before closing. The Buddha’s interior opens 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with last admission 10 minutes before closing. Regular visits do not require reservations.
- Getting ThereFrom Kamakura Station, take a Fujisawa-bound Enoden train to Hase, then walk about 7 minutes. The official walk from Kotoku-in to Hasedera is about 5 minutes.

Kamakura Hasedera
長谷寺
Combine a visit to the Kannon Hall with garden walks and sea views at Hasedera. The grounds include stairs, so leave time for breaks if you also visit the Great Buddha that day.
- AdmissionAdmission costs ¥400 for adults and ¥200 for elementary school students.
- HoursAdmission is normally available 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with closing at 5:00 p.m. April–June admission continues until 5:00 p.m., with closing at 5:30 p.m.
- Getting ThereWalk about 5 minutes from Enoden Hase Station. Choose your train direction according to whether you start from Kamakura or Fujisawa.

Enoshima Sea Candle
江の島シーキャンドル
Look over the sea and surrounding mountain ridges from Enoshima Sea Candle’s observation tower. Even after reaching the island, stairs and slopes remain on the way to the upper area. Allow for both tower admission and walking time on the island.
- AdmissionTower admission is ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for elementary school students. Samuel Cocking Garden is free during daytime hours, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. On event days, leaving the garden after 5:00 p.m. incurs a separate garden fee of ¥500 for adults or ¥250 for children. All Escar sections cost ¥500 for adults. The adult daytime tower and Escar set ticket costs ¥1,100 and is sold at the first Escar section’s boarding point. Do not add the separate ¥800 + ¥500 tickets on top of the set ticket.
- HoursThe official regular hours are 9:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., with last admission at 7:30 p.m. Hours vary by facility and event.
- Getting ThereOfficial estimates are about 25 minutes from Enoden Enoshima Station and about 20 minutes from Odakyu Katase-Enoshima Station. These estimates use the route via Escar. Even with Escar, you still need to walk down.
- From Enoshima Station to the Upper IslandCross Enoshima Benten Bridge and enter Benzaiten Nakamise Street. Ride the three paid Escar sections to the left of the shrine’s red torii; the Samuel Cocking Garden entrance is then on your right. The tower is inside the garden. Allow separately for meals, waits, the tower visit, and walking down. This itinerary uses the daytime tower and Escar set ticket and leaves the garden before 5:00 p.m. on event days.
The Hakone Open-Air Museum

Walk through an outdoor sculpture garden amid mountain scenery, then continue to indoor exhibits at the Hakone Open-Air Museum. Bring an umbrella or raincoat if you plan to explore outdoors in the rain.
- AdmissionAdult tickets cost ¥2,000 on the day or ¥1,800 online. High school and college students pay ¥1,600 on the day or ¥1,400 online; elementary and junior high school students pay ¥800 or ¥600 respectively. Preschool children enter free.
- HoursHours are 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with last admission at 4:30 p.m. The museum is listed as open year-round.
- Getting ThereFrom Yumoto, take a Gora-bound mountain railway train to Chokoku-no-Mori, then walk about 2 minutes. For bus access, walk about 6 minutes from Ninotaira Iriguchi; this uses a different route.
Hakone-Yumoto
箱根湯本
Yumoto is a base for reaching Hakone’s hot-spring hotels. Walking around the station and using a hot-spring facility are separate activities. Check each bath, restaurant, and hotel’s prices and booking conditions, including dinner and bathing cutoffs.
- Getting ThereTravel from Odawara to Yumoto on the Hakone Tozan Line. For the museum and Gora, transfer to a Gora-bound mountain railway train. Check walking, bus, or shuttle access to your hotel separately.

Is Enoshima Sea Candle free during the day too?
Daytime free admission applies to Samuel Cocking Garden; the tower costs ¥800 for adults. On event days, leaving the garden after 5:00 p.m. incurs a separate evening garden charge.
Does Hakone Freepass include Open-Air Museum admission?
No. Museum admission is separate. The itinerary-page subtotals use the adult same-day ticket price of ¥2,000; choosing an ordinary online ticket at ¥1,800 changes your actual spending.
