Where should you go in Shizuoka for views, architecture, art, and the sea?

Enjoy Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay views from Nihondaira Yume Terrace’s corridor. For ornate shrine decoration too, take the ropeway to Kunozan Toshogu. You still need to climb steps after leaving the ropeway.

In Atami, explore Kiunkaku’s former villa architecture and garden, or see Kinomiya Shrine’s large camphor tree up close. Nihondaira Ropeway is scheduled to suspend service for equipment work. The ropeway itinerary to and from Kunozan Toshogu cannot be used during this period. Even for a terrace-only viewpoint visit, check the buses and terrace opening days separately.

Does the ropeway let me avoid the steps at Toshogu?

You still need to climb about 80 steps from Kunozan Station to the shrine buildings. The roughly five-minute one-way ride excludes stairs, ticketing, and waiting. After visiting, descend the steps to Kunozan Station to take the ropeway back. There is no connecting footpath between Nihondaira and Kunozan. If stairs are difficult, you can visit the terrace viewpoint without the shrine round trip. Checked October 9, 2026.

Do I enter the MOA galleries immediately after leaving the bus?

Buy your ticket at the escalator entrance in front of the bus terminus, then ride eight escalator sections for about 10 minutes to MOA Square and continue to the main building entrance. This is additional to the roughly seven-minute bus ride from Atami Station stop 8. On the return, allow time to descend from the galleries to the stop and wait for the bus.
